Thanks, very good to read it is not always necessary to have a battery pack as an interface and there is plenty of scope for development yet thumbs

I'm not a fan of batteries at all as folk will have gathered.

I’ve found exactly that, my 3.3 kWh array keeps my two EV’s charged for nothing in the summer and occasional overnight, midnight to 4.30 am, charging at 5 p/kWh on octopus go tariff, in the winter, I have a referral code for £50 each if it helps?
Once you go electric you’ll never go back, virtually free motoring, around £50 annual service costs, which is extortionate for what they do, no exhaust clutch radiator, oil or filter or plugs or a Miriad of other parts to go wrong or need changing.
Can’t recommend electric motoring highly enough.

This guy does loads of videos about solar, his first ev a kona, Like mine, and switched to an electric mini a year or so there’ll be loads of videos of his experiences.
The range is about right, the average uk daily use for a car is approx 28 miles, and longer journeys are rarer, public chargers are improving all the time and I’ve done 1100 miles last September in Cornwall without issue, and this year we did a similar mileage in Devon, we’re planning a trip to the Lake District next month and use public chargers when needed.
There are good apps such as Zap-Map and PlugShare which tell you if the charger is working, available and how much it costs.
So you’re never that far from an available reliable charger.

It was the sheer performance of the Mini that sold it to me. The power delivery in Sport mode is just something else. Our test drive covered NSL dual carriage ways, A roads, and twisty, bumpy back lanes. I was just blown away by just how well it dealt with everything. It only took me about a minute to get used to the re-gen and one-pedal driving, but I did still find I was reaching for a gearshift when hoofing it off the line at about the time I would normally grab second, it took half an hour or so to get rid of that one smile.

The reason I decided to go electric was for environmental reasons, but if this is what you get, I'm flipping' glad I made the move.

Only trouble is I've got to wait until December for delivery. Ho hum...

Thanks for saying all that for me Hamwich. My sentiments exactly . . . . . . . . and I'm ever more pleased that I jumped off the fence when I did and got an ex-demo model at a realistic price.
Don't get too impatient while you wait 'til Christmas and meanwhile . . . keep doing that research for me!

Tim,

I'm very pleased the Mini Magic worked for you. It is a cracking car, I think the low CofG and additional weight mean a more planted feel and stunning cornering.

The Tesla M3 is amazing, the perfect partner for a Morgan Plus 8.

I'm sure it is, but I couldn't afford one!

JCB say that their 20 ton machine needs an 8 ton battery to replace the diesel engine. The knock on effect means that you now have a 28 ton machine that needs all of its component parts increasing in size.

Their hydrogen engine will be a similar price to the diesel it replaces - batteries are considerably more expensive.

Having a little patience will provide the right answer for me, I'm in no rush - Bamford has a clever team behind him and is a proven right decision maker..

Had a note two days ago that the Microlino 2 is finally going into production in Turin shortly.
Whether it will ever be available this side of the Channel now is unknown.
As for EV prices - I'd have to sell the 4/4 and Saab and still find additional funds...
