I took my daughter to a facility on an old RAF base when she was 15.
We used to go every two weeks. There were roads laid out and early morning we had it to ourselves.
Early on she would suffer input overload and freeze. We would run off the road up the grass bank.

I would just look at her and say "what happened?"

But by the time she was 17 she could drive a car, reverse round a corner, do a three pointer. She just had to learn road craft.

When my older sister was 17 my dad bought a Ford Anglia for her to learn in. Bunking of school early when I was 14, I came home whilst everyone was still at work / school and took the Anglia for a drive. I managed to get it up the road, past the police station (that wasn't well thought through), round the next village and home agin without incident.

I lived in France in my early 20's and owned one of these for about a year - used it every day. No crash helmet in those days either. I recall it being very reliable and great fun/easy to ride.

Peter, that was actually quite a rare car in period let alone now.

Passed my test in Dad's Mk3 Zodiac with column change. Rear L plate was propped up by book against inside of rear screen. Examiner not impressed when it fell down on emergency stop but still passed me.

Mine had been re-engined with a 1200cc OHV Ford Anglia engine and was "quite quick"....
