Have I to differentiate if it is a ceramic or a metallic catalyst?

Esso super (except in Wales and SW England) is badged E5 but actually ethanol free (unlike V-Power) so is best option for my Vanquish and would recommend for all older cars

Speaking to a local classic car restorer who has helped me out with some specialist work with my 51 Riley. Shell e5 best for my 2.5itre Riley followed by esso. Driving from Abbotskerswell to bigbury today passed 4 petrol stations. 1 no fuel (381 Dartmouth turnoff) 3 0 queues .

Hi Heinz, Your question is not entirely clear to me. The ceramic is the carrier for the catalytic active metallic partcles. If a substace adheres (e.g lead as in lead containig fuel) to the surface of the metallic particles it prohibits the catalytic activity. Cheers, Bert.

I have a 2009 Duratec Plus 4 and am unsure if E5 or E10 is safe with this engine, I have been using 98/E5. I looked online at the Morgan advice which really refers to the Gov website and is unhelpful in this instance. All input welcome on this and in particular if I should change the fuel lines.

I mostly use Shell v power or Esso supreme in my 2014 Duratec. I will continue to do so although I have on occasions filled with supermarket fuel. I'm sure E5 is ok in a Duratec. I've had no issues so far with the fuel lines and I'm pretty sure v power contains ethanol in Scotland, not sure about the Esso supreme. I watched an old episode of fifth gear recently where they tested supermarket fuel against standard Esso, Esso supreme and Shell v power in a golf GTi on a rolling road. There wasn't a huge difference in performance (around 5 or so bhp IIRC)but the v power was the best of the 4 albeit the most expensive. They didn't test for MPG which would have been interesting, nor any long term issues on using cheaper v more expensive fuels. Time for another test with some definitive answers I think.
Just checked the Esso website, supreme contains 5% Ethanol in Scotland and also in some parts of England and Wales.

The engine should be fine. MMC are covering their arses in case the filler hose & the hoses around the tank fail. I try to use Esso Supreme as here it has 0% ethanol when you can get it!!!

Kevin, based on Ford engine compatibility... Ford E10 is cleared for use in all petrol driven Ford models sold in Europe since 1992 excluding:
Ford Mondeo 1.8 SCI from 2003 to 2007.This model and Ford models sold before 1992 should continue to use E5. Personal imports not approved by Ford of Europe are not included in the above statements.

I don't know the legality of this but "coats and gaitors" on u tube has a good video on how to remove ethanol from petrol. Might be useful for some older Morgans but keep a fire extinguisher handy!!!
