Nice drive up to Cambridge to get Ruby serviced by Cain, thought I needed a new silencer as it was rattling but Cain found it wasn't the silencer but the doughnut connector had rusted allowing the pipe to rattle at the join. Didn't realise until we got it to pieces that I had a sports silencer fitted from new ! Thanks to Cain for an excellent job.

What a great day out organised by Paul Dunningham for a large group of FolkMog, AngleMog and CranMog members. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/ZJnQqWp.jpg) Our tour of the now defunct Bentwaters airfield in Suffolk started around 10am with a visit to a re-enforced hanger containing an English Electric Lightning, Meteor the RAF's first jet and a Jaguar in taxiable condition although maintained by it own dedicated group. Cockpit and business end of the Lightning. The team looking after it have nav lights, air brakes and canopy closure all working again. The hanger is designed to withstand the blast of a conventional 1000lb bomb! ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/BL6Cy2o.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/PRt4kMO.jpg) Next up was the cold war museum where the USAF would have directed action had things not turned out so peaceably. We learnt a lot of info on the seemingly unbreakable A10 tank buster based there later, an example of which was on static display outside. Next up was an excellent two course lunch followed by a drive over to see the site owner Bill showing off his amazing and huge collection of farm machinery, working static and traction engines driving machinery chopping up eveything from full size tree trunks down to kindling. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/VpmfMQM.jpg) Bill a retired farmer took great delight in firing up this early Massey Harris combine harvester powered by a meaty WW2 era Chevrolet petrol engine. Now beautifully restored there is a black and white photo of Bill himself harvesting with it in 1953. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/v4WuCHc.jpg) In the British tractor hall was this amazing display of seemingly identical early Fordson Majors although everyone was different and illustrating their development over the years. There was also another hall dedicated to American tractors. The afternoon was completed with coffee and cake before we made our separate ways home. What a great day out well supported by the weather. Many thanks again Paul

Lovely trip over Dartmoor, we pulled into a car park just above Widecombe and drinking in the scenery and looking at the ponies when a Honda plastic 4x4 reverses in off the road pauses for a couple of minutes and then takes off like a scalded cat over a 2' rock on the way out with his rear nearside wheel. This wrenches the driveshaft handbrake cable and hub away from the vehicle at about 30 degrees, he pauses and I go to offer him my phone and the old boy jumps in and drove down the road for 50 yards or so making a massive grinding noise. He stops eventually and phones for assistance, quite some display my wife couldn't believe her eyes she thought he was going to turn it over.

Thanks posting John. Brought back many memories- late 70’s air shows with family, with the A10’s flying overhead for the first time…also used used to go to Bentwaters quite often with work in the early days to use their bowling alley! HB

They live amongst us Richard. They do indeed John. That looks like an excellent visit, those A10 tank busters were quite something to watch flying around Norfolk and Suffolk, they looked to be flying so slowly they were going to stall, thanks for the pictures.

Didn't drive mine (M5/M6 to Newcastle-U-Lyne) but Sally and I met up with a friend who did (also on here under more than one login, 'cos he keeps forgetting his password!) at Apedale for a special narrow gauge steaming event. He's the shadow ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/10/11/Apedale.jpg)
