Having travelled by bus and train from Holborn to Greenwich this morning I am prompted to inquire: is there a use for aerosol paints other than graffiti? Is there a proper use for them in the car industry for example? If not, is there any good reason NOT to ban the general sale of them? just asking. The level of graffiti in London is horrible and out of control.

I have already painted a number of motorcycle parts with the spray can.

I hate graffiti too, but if the spray can were banned, they will use paintbrushes.
There are already far too many bans ...

Dean on here is in the car paint business and sells a mountain of them, he mentioned it as a percentage of his business a while back.

I use them regularly for spraying cars, panels, brackets, bike bits etc. Got a stack of them in my shed.

Must admit to finding rattle-cans useful for small jobs like brackets etc when it's not worth firing up the compressor and all the associated clean-up .... and for jobs that aren't huge (like motorcycles where it splits down into a few manageable parts) you can do a remarkably good job with them if you're prepared to put some time into the prep and flatting/polishing after.

Totally agree regarding graffiti .... just back from Portugal and the towns are as bad, if not worse, there. It's a modern scourge.

Now I have nothing against real Street Art and Mural painting .... the problem is the 'Taggers' .... constantly repeating their pointless logo in some odd game of 'I can deface more than you can so I win' .... fundamentally pathetic and weak people scared of their own mortality ... wanting to leave behind some tiny Cosmic squeek of 'I was here' ..... catch them and put them on clean-up crews removing their scribbles .... might be a learning opportunity on the subject of the futility of leaving a lasting mark in the face of the crushing length of eternity! 😁

I detest graffiti and I’m not keen on street art either. In fact, if I had my way, there would be no signs, no lines, no bins and no parked cars visible either.

I just feel relieved that they don't spray any of our family cars tbh and some of those railway sidings need a bit of a cheer up, I just smile at it as it's not on peoples houses.

In terms a vandalism I'll take that in preference to the idiots gluing themselves to the road, a Chieftain Tank would test their resolve...yes I do remember that square..

Have a huge range of aerosol spray paints not just for vehicles.

Had the best results I've ever achieved recently, spraying up a number plate box I'd custom modified for Morton. The MMC code matching paint came in two aerosols, colour and lacquer which is the norm for professional painting nowadays I understand. Finish was so good no further machine polishing was needed just wax protection.

Have to admit to being no fan of graffiti especially where it appears in abundance, though even a single presentation can spoil so much. However where in the grand scheme does cave art enter consideration...

Yup K`s usage of rattle cans matched my own over many a year during times when I would normally use my compressor for paintwork.

Ewan .... aside from thinking good Street-Art can be great, especially where it transforms a derelict and unloved urban corner, I'm with you on that .... when you look at the old photographs and see how good our towns looked clean and uncluttered 100 years ago you don't feel they've been improved.

One thing I noticed moving to the NE 30+ years ago (and it took me quite a while to work out what I wasn't seeing) was that the towns looked much neater than down south ..... then I twigged that the winds meant that BT, Hydro etc put all their cables underground ... makes a huge difference.
