LOL...been there, done that! Luckily not on the ferry car deck!
I love my riveted wheel...both the looks and feel but what I don't like is the steering column shroud. The horrible standard Morgan wheel covered the aperture ok but the MotoLita bosses don't and the cut edges of the shroud look very messy. It really needs some form of return on it to hide the gap!
I guess one day I'll either go to Allon White or try making something myself.
Jays Former Morgan owner. Gone but hopefully not forgotten!
Have the walnut-rimmed wheel (with holes): I find the rim just thick enough in use, and it matches the dash. However - if you go for the "billett" Morgan-wings horn push, watch out that you don't get one that's a loose fit, like I did.
Mine fell out with a resounding crash (it's heavy!) every time I passed over a stretch of Morgan-challenging road surface . It's now fixed in with the addition of some vinyl tape as a gap filler - but is supposed to be being resolved with a replacement from Moto-Lita. On checking various bosses at Berrybrook, we found that the tolerance varies quite a bit from one to the next.
BTW: also have the Allon White trimmed column shroud - well worth it I'd say: it tidies up that horrible grey plastic job no end. Just wish they could leather-trim the stalks now
Just to add something to the discussion about steering wheels, I thought I would mention the Super Spoke wheels from Simmons. I have this one on my 4/4 Sport. It matches the leather of the interior. Mines brown, but I have seen them in black. I think it might be possible to get them trimmed to suit other colours. It's a good sized wheel. Any larger and I wouldn't be able to get in the car ! The leather is comfortable to hold, warm to the touch and there is good grip to be had, with or without gloves. I appreciate that the wood rimmed wheels look and feel very nice too, but I have to say that I am very happy with this wheel.
I have a wood rim with round holes but its 13" not 14" and is semi dished...Looks great but find the rim too thin so wear gloves ,that makes it much more comfortable... would love a thicker leather rim, but like the looks of the wood better. Dropped the hood rail on the 14" Mota Lita with in 24hrs of it being fitted. So watch out when you have the hood down and lift up the rear to get access to the back of the seats.. The center of my wheel also jumped out and chipped the rim so had to modify it the same way with insulating tape.. The standard wheel must get an award for the ugliest wheel ever fitted to a car..
I just spoke to them the other day but they now have a girl on the phone and she has only been there a very short while. ask for one of the lads he had a +8 they did some work for me a few years ago and did it FOC cant sing their praises high enough . They dont make my wheel style any more and I was thinking of getting it changed to wood instead of leather , its slightly dished so I dont catch the stalks.
