Two images just taken: 1986 +4 Fiat 2L engine top and bottom of bell housing. Top has 2 holes, bottom shows plate mentioned above. Hope this is useful.

Thanks Graham, I was dashing out and getting in a kerfuffle about how to put the images in the body of a Reply.
(Update - now sorted out how to do it, it's the Full Image/BBCode copied and pasted. Good to know!)

Thanks Owen. I think mine has been put together without the big one. Looks like an engine out job to fit it?
I might try just covering the hole....
Ta again for the pic, very clear.

Nick, I been have pondering your issue and I think your problem can be solved without the need to remove the engine if you look at the pictures bellow , what is shown is the bridge plate supporting the rear of the gearbox this is mounted on two rubber bobbins bolted to the plate. The bridge plate is retained on two chassis rails, that run for to aft, by four 1/4" nuts and bolts If you remove these fasteners, also the aluminium prop-shaft to gearbox flange adaptor disc (shown in the other picture) together with the bell housing bolts, then you will be able to lever the gearbox rearward by 1/2-3/4" giving you enough access to the mating gearbox/engine faces enabling you to slide in the replacement cover.

As I see it the only real obstacle to you doing the job is obtaining replacement Bell Housing Flywheel Shield Upper as they appear to be a little scare like rocking horse sh*t ,but are not expensive. Maybe you could try Guy Croft, I've found him always very helpful, if he has not got the part I'm sure he would be able to point you in the right direction
