It is an early one and they all have a 50 amp fuse which if blown (mine was caused by voltage regulator going down to earth) you loose the lot. I think we need an auxiliary supply to safety features such as hazard - direction and stop lamps.
Phil - you clearly know what you are talking about. Do you think what you describe is good design? Can you imagine it happening in a mass produced family car? Indeed do they have main fuses of that sort?

Yes they do. It could happen to any car. Even if the hazards work the reality is you could be stopped in a live lane of a Motorway with nowhere to go. The hard shoulder is to save lives no to be a cheap 4th lane.

What do you mean by "needed"? If you are only concerned about costs then we dont need motorways at all. Sure there would be wall to wall congestion and economic damage but who cares? Not the traffic planners by the look of it.
We should tailor the road system to what the people want and not try to tailor the people and their habits to what will suit an inadequate road system as we are doing with the Smart Motorways. And as for the argument that if you build more roads you will get more traffic - nonsense! People dont go out to drive just because roads are there ( Morgan enthusiasts excepted!;-) ) They overwhelmingly use the roads because they have to go somewhere, and they want to spend as little time on them as they can.
Not long ago I had to drive 200 miles up the M50 and then M6. That 200 miles took me 6 hours. Do you think that is acceptable?
If people didn't consistently vote against increases in taxation and public spending then you might have a point. It doesn't matter what people want, it's what they are prepared to pay for that matters. As for your 6-hour 200 mile journey: how long would it have taken by train?

+1 We are going to have to get used to a higher overall rate of taxation if we genuinely want things to be fixed.

More modern Trads have a master fuse, and so the same total shutdown could happen.
At the risk of droning on, without a reflective rear number plate, if that happened in the dark, the outcome may not be good. Mine has a 40 and a 50 amp in the master fuse box, I carry a spare of each, but I bet many don't

I don't as I reckon if they blow the car needs a good looking at Fair point, but fuses fail through vibration fatigue too, & of course if you carry a spare it'll never fail
