Not all the time. My 1986 car was sprayed wings on, with the piping sprayed too. Maybe just if you wanted contrasting piping?

Interesting. I stand corrected. When we bought our 1985 car, Ben Duncan assured me that it had been painted wings off. The car was metallic grey with black piping.

I understand if you had painted wing piping then the wings were painted on the car if you have unpainted piping from new the wings were painted off the car. One of the great frustrations of my 1985 4/4 with painted wing piping, the paint would crack on the piping due to chassis/wing/body flexing and I was constantly touching up the piping paint

I have found the original spec for our 1985 car (B31 HWP - where are you now!) and it lists:
- Separate Wing Beading - £100

Cuprinol treatment of the ash frame was an extra £30 and underseal £45.

Sounds a lot that far back for wing beading but guess it relates to the extra cost of removing bodywork for individual spraying, then re- assembling, something that happens by default nowadays as is the ash treatment and underseal.

The following is from memory....so not 100% certain but fairly sure.
In the 80's if you had different colour beading then the factory would loosen the wings and paint. I don't think it was wings off as it is today.

Hi all,
thanks for the fast replies!
@Stephen: i will ask my Morgan specialist about the price of a clutch change, then i can calculate a bit better.

Conclusion today, the black 1980 is out. It would have been a nice project, but in the end expensive. The 1988 i still
think about. Without connections i expect there is no chance to get the MFK (swiss TÜV) with this exhaust. Some other
things are not original or missing.

Good night

There is no need to have your Morgan suffer with a leaky Plus 8 sump gasket (or leaky valve covers...another frequent complaint I hear.) If these things are properly attended to, there is no leaking.
I find oil leaks in engine bays creates crud and the engine bays become unsavory to work in. I cannot recall how many sighs I have heard from Morgan dealers faced with another
such engine bay.

There have been a number of Plus 8 sump variations. https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/plus8oil.htm#SUMPS In the mid-1990s, the MMC kept the earlier 3.9 steel sump rather than use the cast
aluminum version used by LR. They were wisely afraid it would hit things and crack...like the Roadsters notorious sumps do. Of course, these were very different MMCs. However, though I consider
the 3.9/4.2 the best of the lot as it has a greater capacity and yet is shallower (less hitting of the road) the best of the lot (I use them having, purchased them BEFORE their price spiked. ) it has an
Achilles heel. When LR switched to that sump (costless for them) they tried to adapt the sump flange to be used with silicone ( rather than a cork gasket to save a few pennies. 🙁 The result is a
siliconed sump that leaks like hell. That dismayed me to no end. I hate a deeply filthy work area.

The cure? Merely buy a cork gasket suitable for the 3.5s. https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GUG703045SG Use only a tiny dab or two of silicone to hold it in place for a few seconds (high heat
Hylomar or RTV if you are very into details). You don't need it at all if you have another set of hands helping you) to hold it in place in the sump while you insert the bolts. IMPORTANT: Use the
GoMoG torque sequence for your the gasket and avoid a failure. https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/Plus8SumpTorqueSequence.jpg That is the end of your sump leaking.

Other leak areas for this engine (and any other engine) can also easily be resolved with the right parts and knowledge. Of course, they ALL have important watchpoints to cure. A non-leaking engine
produces a welcoming engine bay rather than the need to keep your bonnet closed from sight at all times. BTW, I cannot count the Morgan mechanics around the world who admit they are repelled
by a grime-covered engine bay. Such bays discourage linger min them, which so often can spy other problems before they happen. I am not suggesting chroming everything...just cleanliness is fine.
something that can be produced with grime/degreasers and a pressure hose.

Andreas I am also aware that some owners have retro fitted rear disc brakes. This doesn't meet Belgian and I believe German TuV as the cars are not considered original. So they have/are having to convert back to drums.

Hi all,

have seen now another 1980 car. Have to admit, Jack is right. the piping was overpainted too. And not be default, black piping on white car, with paint on it.
So this was done really in the factory because that car was original.
The car was technically ok, but unfortunately need a new paint and lots of work in the interior. Hope next week i can have a look on a 2004 model with only
a few thousand km. What i heard it should be a 4.0 ?!? Thought they only bulit 3.9 litre cars. But i will see...
If this is again to expensive or no good condition than i will go for a Plus 4... Think i have seen most of the Plus 8s now in Switzerland.

The 4.0 is actually 3.9, but there were a number of engine modifications, so it became known as a 4.0
