I am still utterly stumped as to why Verstappen has been allowed to continue with his extremely aggressive style, both weaving down straights to block and forcing people off at the corners. I don’t get why, if not the race officials then at least the other drivers collectively, don’t have a quiet word in his ear about attitude/safety for others on track. Horner doesn’t help with his supportive/incendiary language “it’s what Max does” (I wish Horner would either protest the Merc rear wing or shut the f up and pay more attention to the RB continuing rear wing issues as he is boring the crap out of me now-phew, needed to get that off my chest, thanks for listening). It sets a poor example imo for young drivers in lower categories. We have seen v similar issue with M Marquez in MotoGP with a somewhat “bashing “ approach into corners on multiple occasions without punishment and this now seems to be more common particularly in Moto3 and elsewhere which, it could be argued, has led to tragic consequences for two or three youngsters, sadly. Not being skilful enough myself to race I appreciate that I might not “get it” of course. Nonetheless I am looking forward to todays race, it could get tasty into turn one… HB

It's because professional racing has ceased to be about racing and has become yet another entertainment product .... track antics and rule changes are designed to provide 'excitement' for the millions of couch potato pundits.
As I think I've said before, it started when BTCC was allowed to become a contact sport to please the sponsors and TV ratings .... the whole stupid 'rubbing is racing' thing has been allowed to effect every area of motorsport where money and viewers are allowed to pollute it.
The last areas of true motorsport are clubbie racing, hillclimbs and historics.
Compounded by the high levels of racecar safety that make injury and death a rarity .... you can be a twat on track and not bear the consequences any more ..... the true 'heart in mouth' thrill of watching drivers grappling with dangerous cars at speed (and grappling with their own fears by force of will) has passed .... to be replaced with fake excitement over artificially engineered pit stops and tyre 'strategy' .... so spoiled brats play dodgems on track without fear, while bathing in the undeserved reflected glory of their truly brave predescessors.
Can't he arsed to watch mainstream motorsport anymore .... and that's from a true petrol-head!

It's because professional racing has ceased to be about racing and has become yet another entertainment product I quite agree, I've never been interested in 'sport as entertainment', and I think this applies everywhere there's money to be made out of sports. One of the (depressingly many) traditional British values like honesty, decency, fair play, and rule of law that seem to have been forgotten is the Corinthian Spirit, sports being played by gentlemen and women for the love of the game rather than professionalising everything.

The last areas of true motorsport are clubbie racing, hillclimbs and historics. cough Drag racing Sorry TBM ..... guess I was thinking about disciplines with corners 🤣 Indeed, drags have made a transition from grass-roots clubbie events to professional sport while staying quite true to it's roots .... I would guess because of the nature of it's unique format with drivers essentially competing on seperate, parrallel tracks (not to mention the razamataz was built in from its early days and is an essential part of the spectacle .... but isn't allowed to effect the actual track action) Similarly with hillclimbs ... the nature of the competition precludes track stupidity (well, only doing daft things to yourself anyway) ... and it attracts zero media interest so is a blessed oasis of sportsmanship (and, interestingly, sportswomanship ... it has the highest female participation rate of any motorsport I know ... women competing on a level playing field at the top levels on merit alone) K

I like it cos you can see the start, the entire race and the finsh from the same seat Do enjoy watching a good hiilclimb, and was spoiled living in Worcester with Shelsley and Prescott on the doorstep. Watching lots of identical cars driving round and round and round in circles is as appealling as football......

Yes it will be interesting to see the outcome of the RB/MV meeting at 1300 today with the race officials as he set his last and fastest practise lap whilst under double waved yellow flags for Gasly, so he could be due a 3 place penalty - yeah right Horner will weasel his way out of it I expect..

I read that because Max went through double waved yellows he could get a five place grid penalty whereas Bottas and Sainz went through single waved yellows so they could get three place grid penalty. Suspect being on the clean/dirty side of the track may have bigger impact at this track as there are no other races (eg F2) taking place to clean the track up. To be fair Max seems to be pretty rapid at the starts regardless of what side he starts from. We shall see if the stewards ignore the transgressions… HB
