Here is a thread on wet sumping. http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/290761/1
If you do a search in Google you will usually find something linked to Talk Morgan, quicker than doing the search in TM.

When the M3W has been standing for an extended time (think weeks) without the engine being run then there is a tendency on many engines for oil to drain from the oil tank, past the oil pump into the crankcase. On my car, around 2 Litres ends up in the wrong place. When the engine is subsequently started, the oil is pumped back up to the oil tank where it belongs. A small amount may also be 'burped' out of the breather pipe which connects the crankcase to the air intake. This can dribble down through the air filter and end up on the floor if it's not all absorbed by the air filter element.

This is a feature of many dry-sump motorcycle engines so we cannot point the finger at MMC this time!

Many thanks. The car hadn't been driven for a couple of weeks so that is a possibility. The fluid did appear to be dripping down from the air filter area although the smell does appear to be more petrol than oil. Of course this being a Morgan there may well be petrol leaking somewhere else and I am being distracted by a more obvious but benign oil leak.

You could easily have both issues happening. Wet sumping pumping oil into the air cleaner and driping out as well as fuel leaking from the injector tower fuel hoses, or the tower spigots themselves.

Pull the fan to check for fuel leaks as has been said before.

The oil into the air cleaner just gunks up the air cleaner and dumps oil into the intakes causing crud to build up on the pistons, the rear piston in particular.

My money is on fuel hose issue - coupling or split plus front engine crank seal or blocked vent.

Got to love the M3W

Leaking fuel is not good round any engine but if fuel gets on your screens they will go opaque & need changing. I had a leak from the crimped hose connections.

Probably after effects of wet sumping or could be excessively breathing engine (piston rings) that's sending a fine mist into the throttle body/air filter area continuously - when you stop it slowly accumulates to bottom of filter/throttle body and seeps out onto cam chest cover over a couple of days then down onto floor.
Fit a remote catch tank/breather tank which should solve the issue if your that concerned.
Check the fuel hoses as a priority of course but looking at the picture that wouldn't be petrol staining the ground like that.

Cheers all for all the info and suggestions. While I am at it should I also be checking the fuel tanks? I certainly haven't noticed fuel on the screens so I suppose if there is a petrol leak, above and beyond any oil issues, it could also be happening at the back of the car too?

For fuel tank leaks, quickest way to see is look at the wood 'protection' pieces underneath and see if they are stained.
Just have a car here now where the bottom seam weld has a crack running along it....wood heavily stained....

the tank fill tube weld to the tank can leak too.
