Just watched the highlights. Fantastic racing as ever on this incredible circuit.

Might need to add that to my bucket list.

Watched it all each year for 45 years, despite missing the mix of cars from the old days there is still nothing like the great race-the one day when i dont get told off for sitting in front of the TV for 1000k's .

On my last visit to Perth (1992?) I spent that day watching said race. Think it was still called the Tooheys 1000 back then. The year Denny Hulme had a heart attack out on track and sadly died. I guess he passed doing something he loved.
Sadly there was some controversy right at the end, when the rain came.

Can never forget that race as I was a big fan of Denny's and a friend was racing a BMW 635 in the event -he said it was the scariest driving he had ever done full throttle down Conrod straight unsighted with that heavy rain, was a very sombre 6 hour drive home from where i had watched it as the news sunk in about Denny -NZ's only F1 champion.

It’s an annual event for hundreds of thousands of fans down here in New Zealand and Australia. The nation’s fans are either glued to their TV screens or there in attendance. They say the two countries actually stop for the event. I’ve attended once and driven the track (in a rental car). We stayed at a ‘school camp’ accommodation site (just off conrod straight). Walking back up hill on the track after hours, proved how steep it is at Forest Elbow. You don’t really get the same impression of the gradient by watching the race on TV. New Zealand drivers over the years have done really well at Bathurst. The last Ford vs Holden race takes place in 2022 and then the new Generation 3 cars (Ford Mustang vs Chevy Camaro) take the race to a new level from 2023.
