strewth, yes to all the above observations!

I'd add:

The track needs to be wider &/or have more runoff: it's too fast for the current space.

Lewis/Mercedes know their way around the restart rulebook better than RedBull; who else knew that the 50m/10 car length gap applies to Safety Car periods, but not to race restarts?

The FIA's approach of "offering" restart positions did at least remove the possibility of appeals from the teams, and gave us an actual result at the end of the race

How can MV have only 4 points on his licence?
Somehow the Stewards have allowed MV an alternative reality, where penalties don't apply. Maybe it's the threat of Christian Horner's diatribe that's given MV a protective bubble.
Reading the list of current offences & points, MV has done all these (& then some!), and only been penalised twice: he's committed this weekend's 2 point offence several times, but not been punished
https://f1statblog.co.uk/f1-penalty-points/

So
There needs to be a reset on driving standards & penalties for next year.

At least we now have a 1 race shootout next weekend, with the contenders level on points.
Sadly MV can still simply pull a Senna/Prost, and punt his rival off to win the championship. (MV would win on the countback of race wins)
Is there a penalty in the FIA's locker that can prevent that outcome?

If LH/MV are running at the front, you'd bet that either would want to have the fastest lap point before they attempt an overtake - just in case they both get taken out.

Can we have the drivers' briefings televised please?
'-)

Will

They would have to finish in the top ten to take the fastest lap point. Both being out of the race would negate that.

MV learnt it all from his dad, unfortunately negotiating penalties on the fly is a new low for the sport.

Yep, they are both toying with the limits of rules, and ignoring gentlemanly conduct

Teams being able to negotiate grid positions in lieu of a penalty for a restart is ridiculous
