+1 Graham. My mates Yamaha RD350 with non existent drum brakes and a rubber frame was bad enough Yep, those '70s Japanese bike weren't what you'd call good handlers, were they? I had a Honda CD200 briefly, I needed something to get me to work and pass the test on and my Tiger Cub just wasn't up to the job. It was almost entirely unable to go round a corner at anything other than cruising speed. Still, at least it was reliable, which is more than could be said for the Tiger Cub that came before it or the Bonneville that came after it!

As we seem to be engaging in a bit of customary TM thread drift, I thought to join in... I owned just a couple of Jap bikes in the seventies, the beast of which was a Honda 550 4, not great compared to my old Dommie, but a good reliable commuter.
I had a Honda dealership pal for whom I ran-in what I believe was the first Gold Wing to arrive in Scotland covering quite a few m/way miles on it... Jeez it would almost get into a tank slapper changing lanes crossing over the white lines. I guess the biggest surprise I had re Jap bikes was on a day when I had a shot on a shovel head Harley "sportster", Triumph 650 and Suzuki 200cc within a few minutes of each other... Talk about culture shock... that Suzy had it`s front wheel high in the air when I took of at similar throttle openings to the others.... Yeah, for sure two strokes had come a very long way from my first bike many years before, a 197 cc Villiers 9E engined Norman, with leading link front forks... !!!

Great run out to Sutton Hoo for a talk by the SH society on the helmet. Dry, cool but glorious.

![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/12/14/DSC_0282.jpg) Great race around Newcastle / Northumberland with a pal today. Not a great picture, but the size difference between his RR and the Morgan makes it look like a rollerskate. I must admit I was in envy of the sound of his v8.

...and he has an unusual license plate, or is the rest deleted using photoshop? It's a personalised plate on a 1996 car, it will be worth quite a bit of money that plate say at least £10,000 and the car maybe a quarter of that amount.. This is an example of how crazy the egos are over here on the Island Heinz.. On this site you can check any vehicle for TUV or Road fund License, it's quite handy, maybe you have similar in Germany.

Interesting...No, we are not (allowed to be) that crazy. We also don't have the ability to swap a license plate for an alias. To make the understatement complete (or optional the decadence) I would put "Hi" on the daughter's 12 year old Fiesta („Hi“ as seen in your link, Richard). Our fun is limited to "buy" certain letters and number sequences ...for 20€....if they are still free. But the letter of the registration office always remains, e.g. K for Cologne, so my 1968 Mercedes has the license plate "K MB 230". But it was great luck that this license plate was just not occupied.

They are pretty crazy but a friend of mine has a few nice one's that he keeps on a few old pretty worthless cars as investments as these plates always seem to rise steadily. Maybe your Daughter will have to wait a while yet Heinz. We have a guy called Leo that lives in the next village and he has LEO 1 on his new Ferrari and LEO 2 on his Bentley Convertible and upgrades the cars annually it seems and transfers the plates over, he is a really chatty guy and always admires the Plus 8 as I do his cars when we meet on the Ferry or in the queue, he's a real petrol head.
That's a nice plate for your Mercedes, you got lucky there.

Richard, do you really mean £10.000 or was it a typo and it should read £100.000? I wouldn't be surprised judging by the prices in your link.

Yes Heinz I put 10,000 as I didn't want to exagerate too much but as you say probably more like 100,000.. having taken a look at the lists of madness.. What I meant to mention on my first post about the TUV information was that what it also gives you is the complete history of them so it is a very useful tool when you are looking around for another car, the level of care and or servicing the car has had will be reflected in this history is my finding and it's a good guide and has saved me some wasted journeys.
