Before Christmas i drove into London to pick my daughter up from her flatshare in the Clapham region. I checked on the TFL to see what i should pay in congestion charges etc. There was no mention of closed roads for some vehicles in the H&F region. three weeks later i receive two penalty charge notices as i have travelled down two roads that are no entry to all but local residents. My gripe is that how are we supposed to know about these things if they are not flagged up on TFL or similar. SatNav took me straight through the area. If you know there are restrictions the web page can be investigated. The next thing is that i took her back at the beginning of January blissfully unaware that i was about to receive some more fines at £65 a pop. The signage is poor, the information is poor and the diversion info is non existent. i have phoned around and it seems there is no sensible way to redress the situation. i am not happy. it smacks of fines by stealth. Anybody else have this problem?

That's a bummer, have you expressed the same views to the jobsworth's yet, always worth a try or a quick call to a friendly solicitor. Good luck. Alistair is our (commuter) man on the spot and may comment..with an M16

Kind of you to say but I am not certain I qualify as the board leader on this! My commutes into London were mostly done on Train, it sucked just as much but without the benefit of being able to prepare and use the private space/time in the car. Waze has been pretty good at warning you of these evil traps if it helps. I am not certain if it can keep up with all of them though. H&F as well as Kensington have historically made public comments about wanting to drive non-essential traffic out of the boroughs by any reasonable means. Low traffic neighbourhoods (LTN) has been a new program working across a lot of London in recent times. A quick giggle search found this article https://www.theguardian.com/news/2021/mar/25/traffic-wars-who-will-win-the-battle-for-city-streetsI share your "what the hell happened here" experience of the changes. My recent visit to LHR to collect someone brave enough to fly in gave me some similar moments and I am still nervous of something arriving in the post. All the outer transit roads around the fence and tunnel have been plastered with speed cameras. Irony of them being so keen when the roads are empty is not missed on me. Cameras everywhere and the limit dropped to 20mph everywhere, arses. Also beware of the new parking tricks. No barriers or tickets, you just drive in (past the cameras recording your reg) and if you don't realise that you have to pay and just drive off you can expect the same. Best I can suggest is that you check that the markings on those locations are clearly posted. If the signs are not up and clear (overgrown trees, missing on entry area etc) then it can void them. I believe most of them are secured using 10mm nuts and if found missing you can claim the issue? Allegedly. Is it worth a trip up to photo the missing items in order to cause them a problem with the ticket (and perhaps others who have been stiffed) ? Is this site any help ? https://parkingmateuk.com/penalty-charge-notices/local-authorities/hammersmith-and-fulham/ I used this one once https://www.admiral.com/magazine/guides/motor/how-to-avoid-parking-fines It turned out the street I got a ticket on was not correctly certified so I got it back. I was advised to pay it and then claim it back which I did to avoid escalation and costs. Pay it during the "half price £65" period then claim if you have grounds. Hope this adds some value for you. It seems to get worse and worse, especially if you are an out of towner.

Have fallen foul of alleged car parking and bus lane infringements. On both occasions a letter to the powers that be brought results. Like all bullies they tend to back down if challenged. Still leaves a nasty taste and should not be necessary. Good luck.

When we visited UK in 2019 I asked my brother, who lives in Fulham, where to park so we could meet. We stayed in Kingston on Thames so as to be well away from the parking czars. He suggested we meet at Kew Gardens, easy for him to get too by tube but the parking around there is atrocious. We were an hour and a half late for our meeting.
Never again!!

Have a look in this site www.peppipoo.comIt is a forum/site to get help in how to deal with motoring issues and has advice and formats for writing to organisations. In Feb 2020 we went to see the Tutankhamen exhibit in the Saatchi museum. We stayed in a hotel in Hounslow to avoid zone charges and traffic issues and used the tube/ bus to travel. Oyster card made it straight forward. Basic and brand new Ibis Hotel close to transport stations and on a bus route. On site parking ( but the now usual supplement to park).

….presume you mean take a 10mm spanner with you….. How could I ever suggest such a bad thing. I can confidently say NO that this not what I may have inadvertently said. Only because I would take a whole electric drive set and melt the lot once removed. Apparently. No. Not me. Honest guv.

Of no help to you in this situation but something a bit different. If you have an old persons travel card for the trains, you can link it to your oyster so that you get a 30% reduction in tube fares such that out of rush hour the cost is £1.75 per journey, as for driving into London, although my Son has an in and out drive, I still pefer to travel by train it's so easy.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg
