Remote greasing means you dont need to get down under the wheel arch.... but Craigs car shows he goes down under to keep it so clean?
When greasing the surplus grease exits the various points around the stub axle, roller bearings etc and if you don't go under there then you will have an almighty mess...so I grease while under there and clean up the surplus...so whats the point of the remote greasing?

I have gone the remote greasing route, so every 2nd tank of fuel I will open the bonnet and pump a few strokes of the grease from my gun into each. Not scientific as I’m not watching for grease to appear, but more the little and often camp.

I'm increasingly less willing to try and get under the car and struggle to use a grease gun with the car on the ground. I'm considering a remote greasing system as a quick wipe off of any excess grease is pretty easy. There may be much merit in the 'little and often' approach of Tim.

I found getting the gun on the nipples was the hard part. The remote kit makes that so much easier but you still need to get under the car. I first put kitchen towel rolled up between the disc & the axle. Pump grease 6 times into each nipple. I find that gives a small excess of grease consistently. Clean up stub axles of excess, remove kitchen towel carefully to avoid excess grease on the discs (if any) & spray brake cleaner on discs to be safe. Spanner check the front of the car & check for damage lose wires etc.
I do that every 1,000 miles

My first attempt I did over tighten the nipple in the thread and snapped it inside, I had to use the extract drill to get it out. I then ordered replacements from Cain which he advised using the swivel type. Rule of thumb don't over tighten ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2020/10/18/993E4538-C369-4759-A581-A7CBE6AE2528.jpg)

Quite agree, I still jack the car up and wipe off any excess grease and clean up underneath. I fitted them during lockdown 2020 as I had nothing else to do

For those of us who do not have remote greasing, is it preferable to have the wheels on the ground when greasing or is it okay to jack up the car so the wheels are off the ground when greasing? Obviously access is easier with wheels off the ground. Bob.

As John V6 has said below, this is my reasoning. As I don't have a trigger type grease gun, it is often really awkward to be underneath the car trying to. Make sure a good seal in the nipple. Much easier from the engine bay, and then a good look under to wipe away any excess. We that's the way its going to be once fitted.

When I "invented" the remote greasing kit it was only as a convenience particularly when on away touring, as it meant it could be done easily without getting clothes dirty etc. It does NOT eliminate the need to check fasteners and issues of surplus grease from time to time. I also have a pipe end fitting on the grease gun which when its lever is pressed, opens to grip the nipple , thus eliminating the 'Fight" to get the fitting on and off the nipple - Purchasable on E-Bay for about £15.
Cheers!
