I changed mine at about 2K miles after getting almost stuck at a traffic light on a slight hill in the algae and pine needles that littered the area. No problems since the change. That asymetrical tire that MMC uses in hard rubber and cornering left and cornering right are two different feelings.

Am I right to remember that I read somewhere that if you have too much rear wheel grip it can generate understeer (push)? I am sure I read a thread that referred to choosing a rear tyre that was not as great as grip could be to enable a balance front to rear on fast cornering? Or is that waffle?

I would imagine it could change the balance quite significantly if you have a tyre with significantly more grip replacing a harder compound, I guess the front tyres would also account for this so a bit of a balancing act along with tyre pressures etc.

If you are driving without a passenger then the front/rear weight ratio is skewed. You will lose the rear end if you are too aggressive on the throttle. If you have a passenger then the ratio is just about 50/50. One of the reasons that one has a passenger on a hill climb race!

weight distribution is important if you plan on trying to go fast through the corners. When I added the Hella LED driving lamps and the Speaker LED headlamps that added significant weight was noticeable. I have since removed the Speaker lamps because adding the weight, and particularly on those spindly stalks, the changes were all noticeable.

Well I am glad I didn't take the M3W out yesterday. My daughter asked me to collect her from Brighton in it (she has at last admitted that my car hobby has rubbed off onto her a bit!) but I wussed out as it was just too cold for the three hour round trip. Just as well as a 44 ton truck rear ended me in the Porsche when stationary at traffic lights! Thankfully all low speed stuff so no injuries to me, or the lorry. But I dread to think what state the M3W would be in had I been in that instead. All fixable but what a pain! Hey ho.
