Even the big firms do this
Why do you think all Porsche sportscars have the same steering wheels: homolgation is expensive

I discovered this when shopping around for the best price for tyres - the tyre retailers’ database comes up with sizes for a 4/4: I have a Plus4 which, clearly, has different tyre sizes than a 4/4 🤷🏼‍♂️

Mine is ‘boring’ either a PLUSFOUR type or a PLUS FOUR model.

2009 +4 has Plus Four on the V5.

Having once tried to correct a V5 error where the dealer had registered the wrong colour, DVLA will not accept the word of the registered keeper or the dealer, even though it they accepted the dealers word on registration. A certified letter from the manufacturer was the only evidence they would accept.

DVLA accepted the corrected GVW listed for my 90 - I included a photo of the VIN plate showing the vehicle weights. Many others had done the same. Had it not been changed I could not have it tested at a car MoT station (forget the classes - Class 4?).
However, they would not correct the name of my TVR from "Tamin"- perhaps I should have sent a photo of the logo on the bootlid?

I got an incorrectly registered Mog changed from 4/4 to Roadster with just a polite letter of explanation and a copy of my Certificate of Conformity

The DVLA works in mysterious ways and it's pot luck what result you get.

A friend of mine has been trying to register a classic motorcycle for about six months. After numerous letters, phone calls and conflicting requirements (depending on who he spoke to) he's given up and sold the bike to a dealer.

I once sent in a letter explaining that one digit was incorrect on my motorcycle engine number.

I received a new V5, the error was still there but the engine number had been assigned to the frame !

Conversely I registered a classic car that had been imported more than twenty years ago but never registered. I was expecting all sorts of problems but it went straight through without a hitch.

The DVLA works perfectly until humans are involved.

They correctly issued my 70+ driving licence in a week.
The photograph is the one they lifted from the PassPort Authority.
So now it looks as if I have no upper head, as my white hair blends perfectly with the white (mandatory) background.
