I must admit I am not a big supporter of the Royals, but 70 years as monarch is quite a feat and a role that she has performed with a great deal of dignity.
The world has changed a lot in 70 years and she seems to have coped with it all.

Yes, quite an achievement. Queen Elizabeth II is the only monarch there has been in my lifetime. My great-grandfather, who I was fortunate enough to have known, had seen six by the time he was my age.

Agreed. I got my degree from the Queen Mum. Sadly the rest of them are just c list celebrities or worse. I see no need for the majority of them as Andrew & Harry have shown. a much much reduced royal family is needed & like in Holland they should not flout their role like Katie Price.

A real achievement with incredible dignity and resolve over 70 years. However, the world has changed fundamentally over that time so a future monarch is going to have to tread a different path if they are to retain any relevance..

I swore my Oath of Allegiance to Her Majesty taking the Royal Shilling also having the honour of meeting her on a number of occasions. I and my colleagues were proud to give our Allegiance to the Monarch and not to the Government, which I am told the young recruits still feel the same way. As with all families they have their issues but for me it will be a sad day on her passing.

I am not sure how you reduce a family. Presumably you arent thinking of culling them. We all know they are irrelevant except to the media whose pages they fill. In truth Brenda herself doesnt really matter and does sod all, but every country has to have some sort of state figurehead and she is a better one than say Macron or Putin simply because she does no harm. Her relatives? Who cares? And the cost of them is way less than the faux parliaments Blair created in Edinburgh and Cardiff, let alone an Admiralty with more admirals than ships etc etc.

A very fair point Howard, I had not looked at it that way (or the previous EU trough) until your comment. It's interesting to ask the question of people who have never met her and those that have. I know a few who were against the entire thing however once they had their brief moment became fully in support. The paper image and the real thing remain at odds. It is sad that this stage of her life presents her with some of the worst problems.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
