Or this I have never had one fail in nigh on twenty years, keep it simple and just mount it on the saddle board behind the drivers seat and remove the key. Just run a 5 Amp inline fuse bridge for the radio memory if necessary the ECU soon trims the fuel mixture for optimum and you don't have to bother with a charger at all I never have.

I thought your solution was very clever Paul but I tend towards the fewer links in the chain thinking of the hard shoulder moments that happen very occasionally.

Easy fix by bolting both leads to the same terminal. Bought and fitted a new one, but am now planning to remove. It's location under the bonnet means it's useless as an anti-theft, and I fitted one of those Dis-Car-nect things to the negative terminal for when I'm working on the electrics

Always worth having an alternative.

Always worth having an alternative. So far so good - just a black knob that you unscrew to disconnect the battery. Having the battery under the bonnet makes it fairly pointless using any form of battery disconnect for security. I have a secret switch for the fuel pump for an extra security measure.

My cars have always been in the back, just like the Mrs's Polo is strange I thought, weight distribution VAG says I'm not sure my 95Kgs does much for that but true she hasn't left the ground in it with me passengering - yet.. That sounds pretty handy I might get one of those as a belt and braces as mine has a bypass for the radio memory.

Isn't the idea of the Ctek charger/conditioner that it stays connected all the time while the car is "winterised" or otherwise not being used ? (with the charger's brain figuring out when to come into operation). Since buying my Ctek that's how I have used it, mindful of the instructions in my (Roadster) manual which states: "If the vehicle is left standing for more than 1 week then it is advised that a battery conditioner is used to maintain the battery correctly". So which bits of the car's circuitry cause the battery to run down ? As far as I can tell there's just the clock and the blinking red light on the dash. On another car I use a similar charger and for the past 6 winters I have hooked it up to a standard domestic time switch which activates it for 3 hours each night -- the battery is still absolutely fine and presently shows 14.5 volts (which I don't quite understand, as it is a 12 volt battery). ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/11/03/Charger-3-Nov-2021.md.jpg) 14.5v would be about the voltage of the charger when operating. But when the charger switches off, the battery volts dont instantly drop to 12.7. Instead there remains some surface change on the battery plates which keeps the voltage at 14.5 until there is a slight current drain and it drops back.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned on this thread but don’t u guys just switch it off via the cutout switch? The GTN is the only vehicle I have that is not regularly connected to a charger. I always use the disconnect switch. I have a similar battery disconnect on the Lancia but don't bother as the battery seems to get more affected by the cold regardless so have it hooked up to the charger and it stops the cold killing it,
