So now some new difficulties with my English…

The dash is fitted, electric works, the interior is cleaned… but the door doesn‘t close.

After some tries the problem is the doorcatch at the carbody.

The doorcatch is the combination of two parts. A bigger part and a smaller part looking a little bit like a mushroom.

The bigger part is fixed at the body, the „mushroom“ catches a hook from the door. Usual the „mushroom“ is pressfitted to the bigger mainpart. But now the „mushroom“ is free and turns around and so the door doesn’t shut. So I must have a look to adjust the „mushroom“ to close the door. Not comfy.

Is there a way to repair? Or must I buy a new doorcatch?

It looks that‘s part no.23. A doorstrikerplate MBC1700. Now I ask a German dealer if they got the part at the shelf.

On the other way I ask a friend if he can machine a „mushroom“ with some threats for me. So I change the „mushroom“ and fix the custommade one with a nut from the back.

Hi René, the striker plates are handed MBC 1700 right hand and MBC 1720 left hand, so I'm assuming you would need the latter for drivers side. The mushroom shaped part you describe as loose appears to be riveted to the main plate, particularly as there is a flat side to mushroom head which has to be at top. It's possible if you removed the whole assembly you could re-rivet or even have it welded into place from the rear.

Simplest would be to buy another if available in reasonable time scale of course. Closer picture here, part 23

I believe this is a Land Rover part as fitted to the old style vehicles such as the Defender. Loads on the web and eBay, have a look. Hardest bit will be peeling the trim back to access the nuts I think?

Just found, it‘s a LandRover part… but the MOG is shiny silver, the Landy has a black one.

I think it's this left hand one you may need René assuming issue is with your driver's door. As already mentioned they are handed.



Please double check this is correct side though.

good eyes! But it‘s the rightside catch damaged. So I‘m afraid to loose my wife…

About „cheap“… the BRITPART aftermarket part is about 16-18,- EURs in Germany, the original LandRover between 65/80,-EURs.

Now, let‘s see what to pay in a MORGAN box.

Had exactly the same problem last summer. I removed the whole plate, easily accessed by removing a few trim screws and slipping your hand behind to hold the captive nut. Once removed I made sure the “mushroom” was in the correct position and then stuck it in place using Araldite 2 part glue. Been like that for 6 months now, no problem.

A friendly local welder could tac the pin in place in minutes, just remove from the car, I would think far cheaper and faster than waiting for an OE one
