Every fuel station within a six mile radius of me is selling diesel at £1.75 - £1.77 per litre. So have they all had new deliveries of fuel in the past 24hrs, I think not. Blatant profiteering if you ask me.

Don't worry, market forces will soon sort that out. There's no way our oil companies would be operating an unofficial cartel/price fixing mechanism to unfairly take advantage of consumers. The Government would never permit it, they'd step in immediately to ensure fair pricing.

Presumably the price is up to cover what will be the replacement cost of the next tanker load. As UK oil companies accounts are public record any profiteering will come to light, at which point it is up to a combination of Government enforcement and public backlash to redress the balance (tho it always seems that public fury soon dribbles away and ease of access to our local petrol station overcomes our moral indignation)
I've seen suggestions that the Govt should reduce the tax burden on fuel ... that may possibly happen .....but several thousand state of the art anti-tank missiles (and who knows what other unpublicised 'support') won't come cheap .... and, as the pace of visa processing picks up, the refugee costs will be significant (both domestic and aid to 'frontline' states to ease their burden ) .... on top of pandemic payback and a revised down UK (and global) growth, wiggle room will be tight ... definitely belt-tightening times for many, at least in the short to medium term.

Just paid £1.60:9 for diesel at Sainsbury's in Dartmouth but the BP was £1.76:9 which is 500 metres from JS store..
At least we can get it and have somewhere to go unlike the Ukranians..

Just as well I bought the Mini in today.....
1) have you seen the profit of the main oil companies in the last couple of years, might be worth a look! (Clue BP 2022 was almost £10bn)
2) When was last time the IR updated their tax allowance for mileage on private cars? 45p a mile for how long now ?
With the long range tank in the ML I expect I will soon be able to sink £200 in a single sitting at this rate.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Agreed Richard. I just paid 1.609 at Esso Felixstowe for E5. Shell wanted 173. I don't buy diesel but E10 was 1.569 and I think the diesel was 1.61

Spare a thought for those of us that have to use oil for heating and cooking.
One of my neighbours had 800 litres of heating oil delivered yesterday - cost her just over a grand!
