Good evening All,

My 4/4 Sigma is going in for it's annual service, MOT and will be getting the front SSL fitted. As I tend to have a whif of coolant smell at time and stronger than I recall, I am contemplating fitting an aluminium radiator. It was pointed out last year that there are signs of a pin hole leak at the bottom which was evident from the deposits left.

So, with that in mind, my preference is to pick one that doesn't sit lower than what I have. I personally don't like seeing the radiator showing it's bottom which would negate having to install a valance. However, having revisited what Ewan did on his 80th, I am temped!

I have read the many forum posts on MulFab and SiFab but can't find info on which one, if any, doesn't hang low. I recall Williams making their own and will be calling them in the AM.

Any other tips or advice on what else might be worth having replaced whilst it's in? It's a 16 plate with 18,000 miles. 6000 of those was in one summer traveling across the EU and into Greece and back.

As always, thanks!

P

I believe all the alloy radiators sit lower, not by much though.

I have the SiFab radiator, you might be able to see the difference here.

Thanks for this Craig. To me that seems to sit quite a lot lower and if it were not for your valance, the bottom part would be very exposed.

hmmm...

Really appreciate the pics.

Very happy with the SiFab one I fitted to my Roadster recently. Being taller than OE it's bound to sit lower but by spending some effort getting the new rad to sit as far forward at the bottom whilst still fitting centrally with clearance between inner wings mitigates the amount it hangs down below OE, although its just above bottom of existing valance on mine. I agree having such becomes necessary for cosmetic reasons alone.

Note when fitting the SSL RS front kit there is an option to raise front suspension if you are concerned.

Talk to Simon he may be able to help. He makes shortys for cars with a/c. I fitted one but I don’t have a/c. By memory they are a couple of inches shorter and I think may have a slightly thicker core.

As Roger says, I make " shorty" ones...

Librands do a couple of brackets which allow you to re-position the number plate box below the front apron. Effectively covers the bottom of Simon's alloy rad - without any restriction of airflow.

The SiFab Radiator on my Plus 4 is no lower than the original. I know this because I expected having to modify my lower valance, which goes as far back as the crosshead, but it still fitted exactly the same with the new radiator. Maybe mine is a shorty.

That's interesting Dave. I'll send you pics of mine once fitted and perhaps we can compare.

I've been in contact with Simon and have a shorty arriving in time for my service. SImon informed me that the shorter version is still 15% bigger than the factory fit version so was happy to go with that.
