Hello, everyone,

after doing some work on our 1972 4/4 in the winter, I am now in the final sprint and hope that the German TÜV will not find any defects. To keep the optics looking good I would like to redo the front and rear hood pads.
The previous owner used a simple rubber tread here, but it looks awful. Can you tell me what I use from the best and where I can buy it? On photos I saw that the front pad looks like a roller shutter belt...

Many thanks for your help.

Greetings, Markus

Hello TBM,

I have a rubber seal installed, but I think the link you gave is exactly what I need for the front.
Is this the support for the back edge? https://mogparts.net/product/wing-piping-black-plastic-original-car-set

I just saw that you added a link to the instructions. So I can use the bonnet tape on the front and back?

Greetings, Markus

That is the wing piping - fits between the wings and the bodywork.

The tape I linked to fits at the front and back. Google Morgan Bonnet Tape and there are other stockists.

Thanks for your help.

I'll see if I can get it here, otherwise I'll probably order it in England.

This one? https://www.holden.co.uk/p/lacing_for_cowls_scuttles_bonnet_tape

Might be too short - according to BHM you need at least 4 metres

BHM Tape

Greetings, Markus

On latest Classics and probably earlier, the bonnet tape for the front is described as 19mm cotton with stuffed edges in the parts book Markus. Its woven into slots in cowl. Cannot find reference for similar at rear of bonnet but it appears to be 16mm flat cotton which is glued on. I lubricate both occasionally by rubbing in candle wax.

I used the same stuffed edge tape front and rear (IIRC it was a pack from Heart of England). The front was threaded and then bolted at the ends and the rear was tacked on with pins between the edges (the pins came with the pack). Lubricate mine with vaseline.
