And why should they have to ?

The lack of support from the factory and the ongoing difficulty in obtaining spare parts doesn't help matters either.

All issues are fixable, as proven by the extremely inventive brains within the M3W community, but I agree - owners shouldn't have to. I signed up for an old car, knowing exactly what to expect from running an old car. If you buy something new, you have an expectation that it's going to work and to be reliable.

I agree with the sentiment that if the M3W was not so unique and fun, owners would have never been so accepting and forgiving.

I too thought that I had done my research, and had a plan to make the expected updates, fixes, etc. What I had not planned for was how MMC reacted to unexpected quality issues, with their most common reply to my complaints being, "but nobody complains about that" or “they all do that”. More specifically, their Centa upgrade kit’s main journal was made so poorly, with metal lathe chock marks on the sealing surface, it tore up the rear main seal shortly after that 'upgrade', dumping its oil on the street.

It was shocking that senior MMC leadership had so many stories, excuses, and denials. Although MMC eventually made a journal without chock marks (after I sent them a YouTube video on Metal Lathe Soft-jaw Technique - when they said it could not be done) however, still with a turned sealing surface; which is likely the reason why most leak oil. I then had a race-car shop machine a burnished surface with a chamfered leading edge, as my upgrade to MMC's upgraded part... and it then didn’t leak oil (no, they don’t all [have to] do that).

I also don’t think the original book’s edition had anything about fuel tank cracks, which turned out to be my most expensive repair cost, and a design that was never improved upon by MMC. My re-welded brackets,

In the end, even though my M3W ownership was a terrible experience (and has caused me to never buy another English car) it was all worth it, as I was on this forum when kankeL posted that ACE#10 was for sale.

Peter, one of the things you questioned in your book was why Morgan bought the Liberty Motors ACE designs, when they didn't seem to use much of it, if anything at all. As someone who has owned both, I’ve personally concluded that Morgan simply didn’t want to let their target customer have a V-Twin 3-wheeled alternative.

Because the alternative was more reliable.

MMC would be wise to jump in with a solution to S&S and IMHO, to offer a 20% discount on the Speed 3 to existing 3W owners as acknowledgement that it is committed to do better. The brand metrics its VC's should be watching here are 'consideration' and repeat business.

Done with my rant.

Not a rant Michael just a reasonable expectation as a customer.
Unfortunately I dont think Morgan thinks in terms of customer-service like a luxury brand should... they have been very tardy on safety bulletins and customer community development IMHO. When S&S sold the X-Wedge rights and stopped production, it would have been nice to get a reassuring customer bulletin on how Morgan will ensure support for M3Ws and their customers...

It's really sad to read all this and to realise that even though I am a lifetime fan and have owned six Morgans ( not 3w) I'm kind of ashamed of the factory response. 3 were new and each had significant problems which were very difficult to get sorted and which proved expensive to fix when really should have been factory guarantee fixes in my opinion. Add to that, that some simple fixes like Roger's bump stops so improved my last new car...was it covering poor leaf spring problems or just an improvement that could so easily have been on the car? When I bought a new roadster in 2004 it really felt as if the factory had developed it properly. It was really well sorted. Within 300 miles the offside exhaust fell off and as I repaired it in the posh hotel's car park in Fontainebleau, much to the hotel's amazement, as I lay under the car I discovered the mountings on that side had been screwed in with naff screws! Nothing like the nearside fittings. I mean, really? It was £38 T and two weeks old.
In the end ( after the next new one in 2014 where the prop shaft leaked oil where it joined the gearbox into the floor and my trousers, the rear suspension collapsed and the engine mounting on one side failed) I sold new and went back to older. My current plus 4 is mid eighties and I haven't objected to upgrading parts because it's old! It's also more comfortable somehow, those old slab seats really work. It sounds great too. And no ground clearance problems!
I haven't tried the new cx range but then I see the post today that 9 are waiting for factory radiator parts...waiting? Surely the factory should be sorting all that out instantly?

It's just so disappointing.
Weirdly though, I still love them!
Nick

According to the Alternative Parts List, it's made by TTV Racing Components and they will only deal with MMC.
Phil Bleazey is doing a slightly uprated clutch plate and CG Motorsport I think can reline the plate.

CG Motorsport in Leeds can refurbish the TTV clutch as well as being able to supply new TTV clutches for the M3W.

Well, I have done my best and already it has gone to print. Blimey, that was all rather stressful for an elderly git.

So with all the issues and short falls by MMC,regarding the M3W why do, and are we, accepting the huge costs to put right what should have been warranty work. ?

The bush with the Chuck marks should have been picked up before it was even installed, school boy stuff.

The Super 3 may be nice looking car and MMC have promoted the "DREAM", but the last Ten years plus of M3W owners treatment by MMC would you really consider buying one ?

I think i for one would keep well away from a potentially 60k car that's not proven.

We all know that new concepts come with problems,

When i bought my generation 1 ZZR1400 Kawasaki in 2006 it was in and out of the dealers, but by the time the gen 2 came out issues were sorted and Kawasaki were transparent about the mods they made on the back of failures, plus sorting out current owner bikes

Sorry MMC, you should hang you head in shame.
