I am thinking of replacing my fuel pump, given it still is the 10 year old original. Holley immersed fuel pumps have a very good reputation for reliability. Has anyone fitted a Holley pump rather than the usual replacement of a Walbro? If so which model of Holley pump did you use?

The Walbro is a tried and tested replacement not only for the M3W but also for Land Rovers which use the same pump. Why reinvent the wheel with a Holley?

Chris,

I was talking to a local friend who has a substantial business servicing and selling Land/Range Rovers. I told him about looking to replacing my original fuel pump with a Land Rover GSS 342 Walbro pump. He said they are casting about at the moment for an alternative to the Walbro, as they have been as reliable as they had hoped. It may be that for the lighter duty in the M3W, they are fine.

I have to ask the same question. I have not had any reports of failures of a genuine Walbro GSS342 pump (there are some cheaper fake ones about) and it seems to work perfectly well. It is over specified for the M3W installation but has low power consumption, unlike many "performance" pumps. The pump is not working any harder or less in a M3W than a big power V8, it just maintains a regulated pressure at the injectors and returns the excess back to the tank.
