Hello, I've done a quick search on here with no luck so here goes... New 2015 3w owner with an insurance policy that requires an immobiliser. - Is it possible to retrofit the immobiliser that was offered as an option? - If so, is it easy (perhaps the standard wiring included the necessary cables but not the magic bits?) Or has anyone had an aftermarket one installed? While I have your attention , I have a 'chuffing' noise from the rear end, only apparent when maintaining any speed, and lifting off the throttle to slow down. If I depress the clutch, and/or select neutral it's still does it, and seems to be linked to wheel speed, silent when stationary. Presume it's the drive belt but is it ok to ignore? Thanks in advance.

Try Gott & Wynne for insurance, they don't require an immobiliser.
The noisw may well be the drivebelt hitting the tyre sidewall. There will probably be some marks if it is. Firstly check the rear tyre pressure it should be 25psi or slightly more. If that's OK then adjust the rear wheel alignment until there is a bit more clearance.

Regarding the immobiliser, the chassis loom includes a 12 way connector to it, seemingly behind dash. When this option is not spec'd the factory fit a shorting plug which allows continuity to engine functions. It appears you could therefore retro-fit the immobiliser in place of this plug. Not sure of exact location of associated transponder which reacts to fob but believe it's near ignition switch.

The standard immobiliser is a Sterling Excel, made by Scorpion Automotive and is Thatcham Cat 2. The immobiliser plug into the loom is an AMP Multilock 070 item. As Chris99 says, I would try Gott & Wynne insurance as they are usually the best rate and don't insist on an immobiliser. I have never heard of a M3W being taken, they are just too conspicuous.

Note the OP is in France - do G&W offer insurance for non-UK vehicles? Good spot Graham, it seems to be a standard thing over here on any car worth north of 35k. Thanks for the replies, I do remove the steering wheel but still need to tick that immobiliser box. Richard, I'm not electrically minded enough to attempt it so will have a look around. I removed the boot liner to check the belt clearance as suggested by Chris, and there is about 4mm clearance between belt and tyre, and no evidence of rubbing on the tyre. The belt sits nicely in the centre of the wheel sprocket, is tight (just a little twist), and no sign of belt wear. It sits at the L/H edge of the sprocket (?) attached to the bevel box, up against what looks like a stop or guard. Is that ok and could it cause the chuffing noise on overrun.

I found the bottom part of the belt was snagging on part of the standard mini aluminium plate mudguard at times / as the rear tyre wore. Evidenced by shiny metal on the plate. A bit of Dremel work (and later a new tyre) fixed that!
