2018 Classic. Quaife rack. If I pass my hand across the gaiters and the cylindrical section between them there is a slightly oily film and sometimes a very tiny bit of oil.
I have examined the gaiters in minute detail and I cannot find any splits or pinholes.
The cable ties that secure the gaiters seem to be nice and tight.
I am thinking that as the rack will have semi fluid grease in it then it is a thin oil component coming from this that is passing the end of the gaiters. The gaiters are fairly stiff plastic types rather than soft rubber which would perhaps seal better. Not too worried as it is very very little and the fact that the gaiters are intact then road dirt and water won’t get in.
However, have rebuilt various racks in my time and not seen this … any thoughts please?

The gaiters are leaking - they all do that eventually sir Could be just the tie wraps at the moment but OE gaiters will split. Replace with these, although it doesn't sound too bad at the moment. Clamp with thin hose clips or metal tie wraps. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/lBJKpSu.jpeg) Mine after replacement early in the cars life following new clips then replacement gaiters. No issues since - still dry as a bone

Stop worrying…. Can you elaborate on that with an explanation please… ? Yes, if the gaiters are not obviously split, then don’t worry about it An oily film could be road dirt,it could be a leak from the radiator misting the gaiter with coolant, etc… Go and enjoy the car, the steering isn’t going to fall off or seize up- just keep half an eye on it to check it’s not getting worse
