Hi Nick, before you get the car detailed you should consider whether you want full PPF or just at the front with a ceramic/glass coating for the rest as it often best to have the car detailed at the same place that will apply the PPF / glass coating and therefore if you are going to have a mixture of both it'd be best to find somewhere that does both. For example REEP in Dunsfold, near Guildford offer a PPF service (which I have used and they are highly recommended) and are also main agents for G-Techniq and can apply their full range of ceramic coatings. Be careful with the very long-lasting ones as they can only be removed by full sanding which will mean a re-spray so excellent unless you get any body repairs required. Alternatively buy some auto-clay and a Rupes Big Foot to do the detailing yourself (very easy, the main skill is simply "Time") and then apply a ceramic coat such as Polish Angel - really easy to apply, takes about an hour and last for 24-36 months - just need to keep the car in the garage for 24hours for the coating to properly cure.

Thanks Paul, I am only going for a few high impact areas (and full front) as the cost just makes it unpalatable.
I did want the same place to do everything but the good places that do PPF often don't do the coating and so on, and the ones that do both just were not competitive on the PPF to make it viable.

I do have a Megs G2220 DA, but time and wanting it to be done perfect means I will probably farm it out.

The coatings I have been looking at are minimum 5 year guarentee, with self-healing properties - apparently no issue for bodywork according to the bodyshop I spoke to as they said you just treat it as per any normal paint. I am actually having this applied to our Land Rover to help protect it as its black, so if its really good I will likely use the same one on the Aero. But it will be a faff having to ship it around..

I believe our S2 has the factory fitted PPF kit.

Bits covered
Over the cowl
Running boards
Lower bumper edge to edge
Front of front wings up quite high
Mirror backs
Around door handles
Lower part of front face of rear wheel arches

If that helps.

Lower part rear wheel arches have seen several marks so they have definitely paid for themselves.
Mirrors have also seen extensive action.

Getting the heel scuffs off the running boards is a pain but proves their use!

Thanks Alistair, I hadn’t thought about wing mirror backs or the handles. The rest is pretty much the same except I want the full front end done.

It has been a while since I updated this, I haven't done much in all honesty but had a bit of time over the past few weeks so I started on the reassembly of the boot area first.

Cleaned and tidied up all the panels and carpet, then polished up all the ally bits, refitted the panels, carpet and ally bars.








Cleaned and oiled the jack and socket, conditioned the leather and reinstalled it all.




Pulled it out the garage for the first time this year, which then quickly escalated into the entire front end coming off to re-allign the front grilles..






Once that was done started to make up the new beading pieces for the front grille which was repainted. Got them done, just need to refit them now.

Relatively big update as I haven't done this for a while, so a bombardment of pictures to follow..

First of all with the bonnet off I took the opportunity to clean up/detail the engine bay. Plan is to get the cam covers redone as the paint has gone funny, but the rest came up pretty well.





Then outside as needed to do some work on the garage a few weeks later, and managed to catch (at the time!) a rare bit of sunshine, showing off the pearlescent paint nicely. Also gave the front grille a polish, and refitted that.


After finally sourcing NOS headlights (one from Germany) it was time to swap over and clean up the brackets, and install the new adjusters I found:


New VS Old (old weren't to bad, but still shows the discolouration you get with age.


Put some higher powered bulbs in the new lights (halogen only sadly as LED are now illegal post factory build.. ).


Then onto fitting them, a bit of a faff as needed to jack the car up, and of course nothing fits first time.. after some adjustment however..






Also realligned all the front grilles, which required some bonding with liquid metal.. those of you who are keen eyed will notice the addition of some extra ones which was a little project I was working on last year - finally unveiled!


So that is where I am now, next steps are to refit the bonnet tape - then decide if I proceed with anything else or prioritise my time elsewhere until next year.

I'm impressed with the additional nacelles/grilles.I think these were on the Le Mans car for brake cooling ? (but could be wrong...!)

I had thought of doing this a while back and even bought the cutter/punch, etc. but lost my bottle when it came to attacking the metalwork

It looks as though you managed to achieve the 'factory' look bevel/radiussed edge to the hole too; how was that achieved....?
