from when was the video???? I have a feeling that in one of the Morgan videos I have (it may be Handmade) Charles says that "Nothing is sacrosanct about the car except possibly the sliding pillar suspension"

There is an excellent article in an edition of Uncle Melvyn's magazine, The Morgan World, by Peter Ballard. Bit of a suspension guru is Peter. Riding in his 4/4 CVH is competely different to my unmodified '76 4/4 (with its falling rate setup).

Hi Peter, Same information but in a different form (I think). Definitely the same author  Peter's car is quite a revelation in it's smoothness on bumpy roads... Plus the 'nodding dog syndrome' which many experience is also gone. I believe the rising rate mains are now fitted to some models (or are about to be). Cheers,

For all models except the current (2010) ‘4/4 Sport’ and the ‘Roadster’ (V6), the hub is clamped firmly between these two springs even at static ride height; this is only true for cars that are still standard in this area or where the springs have not crept or broken unnoticed over the years. It is interesting to note that the current ‘Plus 4’ still has the hub clamped hard between these two springs. Graham I found the above quote from the article quite interesting because it implies that, in 2010, Morgan was fitting rebound springs that were not compressed at normal ride height. Perhaps the same now applies to the 2011 Plus 4. By comparison to my friend's 1999 4/4 the ride of the current Plus 4 is almost luxurious.  Various discussions about suspension, and in particular mentions of how much better the adjustable shock absorbers are, have convinced me to add the Gaz adjustable shock absorbers (as fitted to the SS) to my order so that they can be fitted in construction.

I was told on the Morgan Motor Company stand without asking that the classic will have redesigned front suspension in around two years. That the sliding pillar will be replaced in that timescale.
I asked about the rear suspension at that point but was advised that there was no news on that.

Yup.
I don't know whether they've worked out the spring rates for the +4 yet, or whether they are just using up pre-rising rate spring stock.
But, that is the important bit - making sure that the rebound spring is not under compression at static ride height - i.e. only one spring (main or rebound) is 'working' at any one time.
Interesting comments Eddie, if they go away from the sliding stub axle I wonder how many trad owners will not buy new...
