I have a 1992 Plus 4 with Rover M16 engine, with no spark. I have checked the primary coil resistance and it is with in spec as shown in the Haynes manual for the Rover 800i. It does not state a resistance value for the secondary winding. does any one know what the value should be. The value I get with a multi-meter is about 4500 ohms which seems low as most coils seem to show about 8000.

Is the coil pack being triggered by the ECU
If not then there is a lot to look at Collision sensor and engine immobiliser Variuos pick ups and sensors on the engine Immobiliser
What have you looked at so far?

I do not know if the coil is triggered by the ECU. I think that is a very early ECU as there are no diagnostic ports at all. The good folk at BHM have advised me to look at rotor arm first then perhaps the flywheel sensor and then the distributer cap. After that I suppose the trigger. I will have to start with cheapest parts and try and do some diagnostics on the way. Thanks Rob for input. PS immobiliser is a bit sophisticated for my M16 - unless I am missing something.

John, from memory if you have an immobiliser you have a separate fob for it. I replaced my ECU on my T16 car & bought one off the web where the immobilisr pins were by passed.

I've read that the cam position sensor is notorious for going bad too. just another failure point.
