Good Morning all,

I have a few brackets with studs on (mainly around the front valance that hold the grille n place) that have come loose.

Does anyone know what Morgan use to bond these to the ally?

If it helps the dried material looks yellowy and is rock solid, like some form of epoxy - looks like strong stuff.

As you suggest though epoxy glue would be the starting point for me given similar issue. Maybe strengthened with GRP cloth lay over if practical. That was the format I used when re-constructing my shortened number plate support box.

the front bracket on my aluminium valance failed on one side.

The bonding agent looked like a yellow / brown epoxy. I made up one new bracket as one had stress cracked & fallen off coming back from Brooklands.
The other one fell off when refitting the valance, so I figured the fixing method was poor & might fail again.




I stuck both down with Gorilla Glue epoxy (half the price of Wickes at Tesco by the way). I left them to dry overnight with car luggage elastic holding the valance hard onto the brackets.

Next day I used a glass fibre repair kit to strengthen the fixing building up layers of resin & glass matting to spread the area holding the bracket on.
Comparison to RichardV6s Wolff Performance valance showed a far wider bracket held on not by epoxy but by rivets. An altoghter stronger solution.

So far so good after 300 miles. I would guess your is similar.

Nick, I've used J & B Weld before for this exact purpose - and to good effect.

I understand the factory fix was Araldite (or possibly whatever was available at the time... )

Both my brackets have sheared similar to the LHS on your last photo, did you actually restick to the section remaining on the valance?
If you did am I right in thinking you made a tongue on the new bracket to fit between the remaining section of channel on the valance?
