Yep. If you love the car, why get rid of it? A lick of paint, some new leather, a bit of tuning and you're good to go.

The great thing about older cars is that you don't have to worry about restrictive emissions, and you can fix them yourself. Buying something else and you really don't know how it's going to turn out.

If you are referring to the crew at Oxon Business Park in Shrewsbury I can tell you that when they worked on my 89 Plus Four, they were superb.without altering anything mechanical, they collaborated with Omex and produced a car with 170bhp, which could chirp the wheels in second and third if not careful. It was very fast. The cost then, in 2004 was 2500 pounds and worth every penny. I kept that car until I bought my current Roadster but there are lots of times when I wish I still had it. Kevin Vernon once drove it at the time that he had his P8 which now belongs to Luddite and was mightily impressed. Sometimes newer is not better.

Meabh- yep that’s the bunch. About 30 miles from me so not too far at all and a nice drive out. They do a tornado chip for the ecu at around £450. I figured about the same to install and tune with a 50% buffer for ‘incidentals’. Maybe injectors, air filter etc. I already have librands extractors and a 220 hp RR printout (estimated at crank) so there may be a little more to set free

Hamwich - my plus 8 is ‘94 so possibly the ‘worst’ mix of restrictive injection and cat determined emission regulations. The annual struggle to pass the MOT involves a spare MAF, it makes the car run really badly but meets the emissions so that’s fitted just for an hour then removed. Maybe the tornado chaps can manage to solve this problem too.

Yeah sorry, I was forgetting just how comparatively dirty those Rover V8s are. I was thinking from the perspective of earlier less restrictive emissions requirements being much easier to meet with more modern engines. But hopefully a revised management system should be able to help.

If only. When I built my MGB V8 that’s exactly what I did. Four barrel Webber, Mallory dissy and a superbly named ‘stump puller’ cam. RR at 240bhp and spin the wheels at 40 in third. Only let down in 10 years was a duff condenser

Never get my Morgan through an MOT with that lot on!

Hence my desire to have the SSL rear end - I have neither Andy’s talent nor quick reactions, and one day it’s going to bite me!

My 95 +8 has had a tornado chip and high lift cams fitted back in 97, it also has the dual cats and sails through the Mot. The difference is amazing 6000rpm in each gear if you dare! The torque is sublime the amount of times I've gone round a roundabout in 4th without realising... At 27ys old there are a steady stream of little repairs, non too costly and the more I tinker the more I learn and get comfortable with the Rover V8. I feel that it is all part of my responsibilities in owning such a great car, as for the exhaust note well, so satisfying.

Well I had a look at the plus 4 today and was left thinking how lovely the interior was compared to mine. I’ve always hankered after reclining seats and the visit confirmed how much better I fit into a car with reclining seats.

After 3 years of looking I’ve not managed to find any for sale, even if they needed a retrim.

I’m in the process of deep thinking before I decide if I want a test drive or not.

I know I really want reclining seats though!
