There is a nut (and set screw) in each front corner of the hood on my 2014 4/4 with easy-up hood. Although the nuts are self locking, the driver's side one kept coming loose and was eventually lost. An M6 self locking nut "sort of" fits for now. I was originally advised not to over tighten these nuts as it can lead to bracket breakage in the front corner of the hood.

Does anyone know exactly what the thread is on this part of the hood? It looks finer than M6 and I don't haver a thread guage.

Additionally, if I can find a source of T type self locking nuts (thinner), then the nut won't come loose so easily as more of the self locking element will be engaged with the screw's thread. Struggling to find anyone online with a wide variety of T type self locking nuts.

I used a nylock I found in my box of bits plus a spring washer. The bracket weld was absolute rubbish on my S1 just two dabs. When one side started cracking I got both sides fully welded up.

I‘ ve got a 2018 Plus4 with easy up.

One day the right hoodrail was coming down when I want to open the hood.

I must undo the the black coated rail and than it was possible to screw the parts together. For the screw I need a hexkey and for M6 selflocking nut a 10mm spanner. All metric.

For a regular check I think it would be an idea to change over for a flat sixside M6 screw with usual six flangehead.

I think MMC isn‘t on the way to use something special as M6 „Feingewinde“

On the easy-up hood on my 2009 Roadster the adjuster screws into the bracket, and is secured by a single locknut on the outboard/lower side of the adjuster (this is a cropped photo, so the resolution may not be very good). Is it a different arrangement on your 4/4 ?

Mine looks the same. The nut I am on about is top left in your picture.

The front corner bracket on the passenger side of my easy up hood has broken and cannot be repaired. The corner brackets are welded to the windscreen header rail so it now needs a complete replacement header rail. Apparently the factory can't supply one

Rubbish. Peel off the rubber seal in the rail and there are screws holding on the hood. Remove those and the bolts holding the corner brackets & then it can be rewelded. MMC are parsimomious with their weld. Get both sides fully welded not just spot welded. I fitted a new rubber seal on reassembly.

Steve Simmonds is worth a shout if welding's a struggle. Mine had been poorly welded previously and was beyond repair- apparently the rail can twist if not done expertly. I replaced mine with an "as new" replacement from Steve.
