When I press the clutch down, it seems to "stick" down. The clutch doesn't always allow me to shift gears, but when it does, and I lift my foot off the clutch, the pedal stays down and then pops up, causing the car to lurch and stall.

The clutch pedal feels "sticky" when depressed all the way down, almost as though the clutch plate is sticking onto the flywheel.

Any ideas or experience with this? 2015 M3W

More likely it's the clutch hydraulics sticking. If it were the clutch disc causing the stiction issue, the pedal would still return to the top of it's travel when released. It is possible, but again not likely, that your pressure plate is 'hanging up' somehow, perhaps due to broken springs.

Clutch hydraulic fluid, like brake fluid, should be renewed every other year, at least. Failure to do so can allow absorbed moisture to cause corrosion and sticking issues with the moving parts in the master and slave cylinders.

I would conjecture that you are in for a clutch hydraulic cylinders disassembly and clean, at a minimum, and perhaps cylinder replacements if they are too corroded. If that doesn't address your issue, then it's engine out time to examine the clutch assembly.

A late thought: how are your Centa drive rubbers looking? Failing drive rubbers might cause the Centa unit to run out of true, creating issues with the clutch operation.

Hi Mog 37
I have considerable experience of a similar issue.
This is highly likely to be your clutch slave cylinder starting to give up. The issue you mention happened twice to me both times the slave cylinder was U/S and a third time it was the clutch master cylinder. Another option that others have experienced is a broken clutch spring or even a broken pressure plate. No way can I envisage the drive roller rubbers being involved here.
I do considerable miles in our M3W and any of the issues mentioned are engine out to solve.
Good Luck

I had similar when the seals in the clutch master cylinder started to fail. For the second time! As per Ian’s comments
I had clutch fluid being pushed out of reservoir too. My car has the three reservoirs as it is early 2012.
Need to b a contortionist to remove and replace but it is easy. Care required when bleeding as can snap fitting and that may mean engine out!

P964 / Nigel - I read you 2018 Clutch Master Cylinder thread. "binding on release" is a very good description of what I'm experiencing. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, the car is undrivable. It only occurs at the very end of the clutch travel and really feels like it's "sticking". As I lift of the clutch pedal, it may come with me as it should or it may stay stuck in place, or it may stick for a second and then pop off and catch up with my foot. I've cleaned everything in the footwell, checked the fluid levels, but can't see anything. Next step, I'm guessing is to bleed the system and replace the fluid? Remove the Clutch Master Cylinder?
