Dear Community , Im stumped. I have a 2016 3.7 V6 which Im taking across France right now. I have made a point of putting in E5 98+ fuel but I am experiencing a loss of power when the engine is hot. it feels like the banks are out of balance and I daren't take the engine over 2500 rpm. I also noticed when I pushed it, the temperature rapidly increase. There are no reported issues on the ECU and Im almost constantly monitoring it with my bluetooth ODB adaptor. Perhaps its fuel but I must have filled up about 5 times so far and Im now thinking its an exhaust pushback/ cat type of issue. Absolutely everything g looks fine in the engine - all the levels are right and when I drive very sensitively the temperate is fine. Im stuffed on this one !! Ive got the car booked into Morgan in Antibes but apparently they don't have diagnostic equipment which worries me slightly !!!!! Answers on a postcard please - desperate Dave in the middle of France!

One other thing worth mentioning - a few days before I came out, I had to drive through a ford (as in water!) and Im wondering of water found its way into a silencer?

It's unlikely to be water, if it had got into the silencer it would have either blown out or got sucked into the engine in which case it would have stopped full stop ! Could be a collapsed Cat ?

Sounds like you might have a misfire on one bank? Are there individual coil packs, one per bank, or just one for all 6? Strange that no fault code has been recorded though.

There is an issue with the catalytic converters, breaking up and blocking the exhaust on the 3.7's....

Thanks Simon H, do you know if this issue would make the ECU error ?? I have no error codes at all!

Its never thrown an error code on the race cars- just a gradual but distinct loss of power and corresponding temperature increase

Broken cat was also in my thoughts, especially when you say you went through a ford…sudden contraction. I have driven a Ford escort with broken cat and symptoms were similar to as you describe.
Any difference if you put your hand over each exhaust pipe to see if you can feel a difference in pressure? (as long as not too hot)

the exhausts certainly sound different - one has a loose metallic sound too it, the other sounds like the 'purr' you would expect. I will check to see if I can feel a 'pressure' difference. Presumably the side that 'sounds' wrong is the dodgy one! I want to make sure I don't change the wrong one.

if you are saying that you never get an error code, then what you are saying makes perfect sense. Is there a way of knowing if the cat is damaged either visually or by some other method, (other than swapping it out and seeing!)

Dave

Whereabouts in France are you - there’re a couple of other dealers - Montceau les Mines near Lyon and Toulouse
