Agree with most of the above.

Our local lady is very good but it has to get to her first.
Best we have found is DPD and UPS but they charge more - its a choice.

The issue is when there is literally NO response to an enquiry as you outline on the sochul or phone. Bland "oh dears, give me your tracking number" and no actual follow through. We had the same with Royal Mail doing a Special Delivery which is meant to be the tracked and signed for top option. Try making a claim having filled in the form and paying the extra insurance on shipment.

I do like the idea of a damaged package being ejected from the chain so it does not get to you and it raises it's own compliant. It might clean out the dodgy people in the chain. The last mile drivers are paid per delivery so they are just going to do it in a manner that best pays them. In some cases we do need to shoot the system. A google of delivery driver cheats shows a good few things!

For every cloud....
I ordered an Emma mattress and they sent me a double instead of a single. I phoned them and they said they would send out the correct one and pick up the wrong one in three to five days. Single mattress recieved a couple of days later about three weeks ago and they haven't picked up the wrong one yet.

It astounds me!

Is this not logical?

Of course it is logical. The Hermes guy has no interest in his job and is simply going through the motions, keeping his head down and nose clean. He couldnt care what happens to your parcel but knows that it is in the Hermes system so if he doesnt deliver he could be asked why he hasnt by his supervisor. He collects his pay at the end of the week.

I've had a few double deliveries over the years. The best one recently was when I received some Jaguar brake pads and a large bottle of brake fluid, instead of my Golf pads. I got straight on that, and soon after that call my Golf pads also arrived. Also by DPD but a different van.

So I got back onto the supplier who told me it wasn't possible to get two deliveries like that. Anyway I sent him the photo. He told me to keep the Jag pads and brake fluid. The pads went on E Bay!

Some of the tricks are interesting.

If there are two deliveries in a small street and one has a "leave in a safe place" option they will also leave the second one on the assumption that a nice neighbour will deliver it to the friend.

If the option for leave at local store/collection point is there then they will simply drop them there and click the electronic "left form to advise" and rely on you collecting the email leading to visiting the store. They would not even bother to visit the address.

I guess if you drive the price down to £5 for an end to end service it is interesting how that is going to work out. Most of the last mile drivers are contract and I have seen delivery numbers as high as 130 for a shift. They also have to provide their own transport and given the price rise of petrol/diesel some have said they cnanot make a profit without cheating.

Lukas is our local DPD driver and is one of the most friendly and hard working I have met, we gave him a christmas present last year and you should have seen the surprise on his face.

There's good ones and bad ones like every role.

We have an excellent Evri ( Hermes) regular deliverer. Known him for years as a pal of my dad. Neighbours are all good too and we take packages for each other.
Unfortunately Hermes ( nicknamed herpes) have a poor reputation. The money spent on renaming would have been better spent on performance. Is the rename to Evri an attempt to hide from their herpes reputation?

one of our favourites was the card in our letter box informing us that our parcel could not be delivered to us because our address could not be found. Go figure.
