I've a 2006 Anniversary with 1.8 Duratec Engine
Is it possible to remove the gearbox from inside the car, If so is there room to remove the bell housing past the bulkhead, it looks very tight. If it's not possible do you remove Engine and gearbox in one lump
Would it be possible to identify model and make of my gearbox

Hi Mr K,
I think you'll find it's an MT75, straight out of a Transit.
Bit agricultural and 1st, combined with the rear axle, a bit short. Does me though.

Sorry, cannot answer the other questions from personnel experience though have gazed at the power train more than once and wondered about removal. There's a good deal of room so I've always thought engine & gear box through front end. Don't particularly want to do it though. Why do you?

Not looking forward to what I might find. Developed a slight swishing/rumble in second gear, changed oil made no difference. Old oil like new no bits or discolouring

Don't get too concerned just yet, gearboxes make lots of different noises. And, being sat so close these seem to be accentuated.

If you remain concerned perhaps you have a local decent specialist who could take a listen but for me I'd have to be very convinced before getting the spannets out.

The Ford gear box fitted to my 2011 4:4 has never been good. About a year ago I had a long discussion with our local Ford transit garage. The service guy went to a lot of trouble looking at what oils were & now Ford recommended for my gearbox model. Finally I changed the oil to the latest. 75w-90-BO made a huge difference.

. Local Garage not too concerned regarding noise.But a little stiff going in to 2nd.
Lubricated linkages and driven just over 200 miles gearbox noise in 2nd isn't getting any worse. But I'm still concerned. Might try suggested 75w-90w-BO gearbox oil !

Noise report from garage.....bank it!
My box is "notchy" especially first to second (and especially when cold). I often have to declutch in neutral.
So, I'll be interested in your change of fluid results.

Thread drift.....Have you had the screen down?

Gearboxes can be funny creatures, I once had an '84 Alfa Spider I changed the gearbox oil and filled with the latest correct spec oil and it wouldn't change gear at all. I drained and refilled with Red Line as recommended by the Alfa forum and it changed like a knife through butter, go figure !

My 2011 4/4 has the Ford transit box. Really notchy & 1st to 2nd when cold difficult.
Anyway after getting a good Ford parts person kindly doing some research. I now use the latest version of Ford oil for the Transit gear box. Much improved & fine from cold.
