Hi everyone!

After a period of Bentley and Jag ownership I am back with a Morgan. :-)

There really is no substitute! :-)

I have been told that I should change my intake filter for a filter with better flow (to let the engine breathe a bit better), but no one has been able to recommend a specific filter for me to buy.

Any input would be appreciated!

Best regards

Jens

Jens

I assume that you the standard black filter box with the trumpet intake on the right hand side (looking forwards) You will get a marginal improvement by using a K&N filter element inside the box but the design is quite restrictive , especially if you have any other engine modifications , and is best replaced by a "cone" type filter which bolts directly onto the air mass sensor.

There are 2 types , the K&N type which uses a fabric filter element , this is cleaned with water , and re-oiled every year or so. I use a JR one , but it did require some minor mods to ensure a good fit.

The other is a foam type element , this is again cleaned with water, I am not sure who supplies these, but all the Racing +8s in the Aero Racing Challenge use them, so ask someone like Bret at BHM who prepares Steve Lockett's car.

Thank you so much!

It was a K&N Cone type filter that I had in mind, but I am unable to find which one to buy. There seems to be a million different versions, and the K&N website does not list any a suitable for Morgan, or even the 3.9l Rover engine itself for that matter.

Any thoughts?

Jens, I cannot help too much but I remember this thread a year ago where Cain Pulton at Wolf Performance is mentioned as a source of help among other advice.

I asked the same question a while ago and was recommended the K&N RG-1001BL RG, which I’ve bought, but not figured out how to fit it it without grounding the MAF sensor. I have just tracked down an old black air box to cut up to try and make a mount, though maybe Andy G could share a photo of his installation for inspiration?

Do you need a close up view of the actual mounting between the AMS and the filter? I seem to remember that there was a minor amount of machining involved before I could use the JR filter . It was done by a guy who advertised in Miscellany , but this was 20+ years ago.

This is the open end of the air mass sensor showing the 2 over centre clips. The K&N filler has a rubber coated rim which fits over this flange and is secured by a jubilee clip . Does this give you the idea
