On my sport I found that there was a slightly sharp edge on plastic of the seatbelt clip that slightly scratched the bolster. I chamfered that off, seems to have done the trick.

Oh dear me! Thanks everyone for your really helpful suggestions. However, I've no studs, zips, buckles, back-pocket combs or whatever to account for it; and I've applied hide food several times in the 4 months since I took over the Roadster. Think I'll get it outside in good light tomorrow and have a really good look: I'm starting to wonder if it's dye from my jeans that's rubbed off on the bolster, and looks as though the leather facing is wearing off  I'll report back - and be prepared to eat humble pie! Fingers crossed it's just dye or staining of some sort, rather than actual wear. Cheers, N-M

Ah yes......new jeans! The last car I had with cream upholstery was an Audi and wearing jeans was a nono until they had been washed a few times!

Speaking as a black jeans officionado, may I suggest you upgrade to black jeans, which don't seem to shed colour like blue.

Give up the M&S jeans and get yourself a pair of cavalry twills, viyella shirt and cravat,  far more in keeping

For those who don't know: the name jeans is derived from the fact that the material used was originally died blue in Genoa, or used die from Genoa, and was obviously known as Genoa Blue. Yet another Italian invention. The material itself came from the French town of Nīmes, hence the name Denim.  PS. Don't blame the Italians for the blue stain. It probably now comes from China. PPS. The Australian equivalent of jeans are a beige material and are called moleskins. The origin of that material is also French.

I think the origin of moleskin is Egyptian, moleskin belongs to the fustian class of fabrics which probably originated from Fustat, Cairo in 2nd century AD
