This weekend I was at a work shop for half-timbered house restorers near the Brothers Grimm town of Steinau an der Strasse. I enjoyed the return trip on small roads in midsummer weather.

Nice couple of hours random wandering .... started at New Aberdour Beach then got lost in the little lanes heading inland .... Mrs Image sufficiently enjoyed the 'wind in face' run to be unfazed by us arriving at the cafe 10 minutes too late for cake! 🙂




Truly perfect open-car weather here today.





Beach was beautiful and largely unlittered with humans 🙂

Given the temps today it would have been a crime not to fire the old Mog up, so headed out with a short sleeved "T" shirt to keep my upper body warm and headed out to a local vintage/Classic car club get together. The last time I was able to drive the Morgan so attired was in Italy some years back. As ever the club members had quite a number and variety of wonderful cars set out in the car park, The blue Aston being a particular favourite.. The Caddy brought back memories of an identical blue one a friend owned that once was reputedly owned by Peter Sellers, I think the reg might have been USA 10 or similar. Another memory the Caddy triggered was spraying a slightly later but equally large Cadiddlydak, where trying to reach across the boot bonnet and roof was a real test of acrobatic skills.... Old guys and their memories...

Still it was great to enjoy a run in the sun in my old +8 and wander round inspecting some wonderful old and some not so old machinery...BTW my +8 being in standard engine configuration has never overheated, even in the heat of mid summer Italy, let alone the 30 deg + temps today.... What`s more to want...

Showaddy caddy steals the show.

Looks like a fun day out...

While it's a slightly different version of the Caddy ragtop above, not many people know that the '59 Eldorado Brougham variant was designed by Pininfarina. There were only 99 made, and it features slightly smaller tail fins.

Either the sun rose in the West this morning, or the Bear River had cubs. My wife asked asked if we could take the Moggie into town for some ice cream this evening. I damn near fell out of my chair. She enjoyed it, but prefers to just putt around. No driving with èlan. I’m fine with that, but the car was chafing a bit, I think.

One should never tempt fate, but the wife's Mercedes cabriolet has for years given faithful service and been totally reliable and was running better than ever (although the wife fancied a change) and the other day it went into limp home mode without warning and now one of the mirrors has developed a nervous twitch.......its in today for diagnostics, However that means the Morgan has been undertaking more mundane duty, it took us grocery shopping yesterday, fold down back seats a boon and took the better half into work this morning, a bit fresh with the hood down, but great fun and showed a few upstarts a clean pair of heels. Not at its best in commuter traffic but great fun all the same.
