For sure ever advancing technology can introduce ever more complex issues when it comes to fault finding but this one takes the buiscuit for me.. Appologies for yet more P car linkage. I suspect I may be on the edge of being excommunicated by the faithful... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoORBj-giUU&t=888s

It shouldn't be, but it can be a case of how experienced your repairer/technician is with a particular fault, knowledge is not always shared across franchises. I remember an ASR problem on my Mercedes E320 Cabriolet that occasionally would lead to limp home mode in the wet. Not helpful when on a crowded motorway.
This was in the days when fault codes weren't stored once the engine was switched off, so unless you took it to a Mercedes dealer and not turn the engine off, so they could read the code, especially with a occasional fault, it could lead to a lot of head scratching, fortunately for me whilst under warranty. They never traced the fault despite many hours in the workshop over many visits. When it came out of warranty I took it to the local Mercedes specialist (as i was thinking of changing the car which I really liked) and he knew exactly what the issue was a faulty ABS sensor, he had come across the same issue whilst working for Mercedes in the same franchise but at a different branch.......
