Nick it would be interesting to look them out and see if they have corroded.

Mine are a dull but same colour as the car. Looks like they were painted with the colour but with no clear top coat put on them.

A few years ago I fancied some posh chrome ones, so I took the existing to my preferred plater in Derby, he took one look at the base metal and said 'no way' they will fail in a couple of years and we don't risk our reputation

So they got a rub down and respray in my shed hot-box with a rattle can, looked better than new !

Dug them out today. They are still like new. A sort of sheen finish, almost like undercoat. But no detectable flaws after a good few years wrapped in bubblewrap in a cupboard in my garage....

Just remembered some powder coaters offer chrome look, I saw some alloy wheels at Krazy Horse a couple of weeks ago, impressive finish

I suspect that the finish has morphed over time, because I've seen at least three versions, but very few like my Roadster with the dappled low key Hammerite look.

Some do have a slight sheen and I would be very careful applying any sort of polish/abrasive because it has the potential to make the finish go patchy. I had this problem on my 2012.

The simple grey primer version is probably easiest to look after.

I've always wicked some ACF50 into the bolt hole recesses as I think the paint breakdown starts there
