On my '67 Plus 4 (four seater) is a 4" (round) and about 4-5" deep round cylinder (bolted on to the end of the tool box) that is in line to the coil/points going to a toggle switch under the dash and from that switch off in to the mystery wire harness. I'm told it is a booster. I've asked several very very knowledgeable people about it and they all agree it is some sort of booster, but no one has ever see anything like it. So I'm a bit puzzled.. I can send a picture... Thanks ,Pat

A picture and a simple wiring diagram would be helpful if you could manage it.

Pat,

Thinking of info that appeared on another forum a while ago, and that your car was imported from the USA, there were a number of 'booster' type devices available on the accessory market over there. I can't remember the make/model discussed on the other forum - but it would seem some swore by them and others at them. If you are doing a refurb on the engine it may be worth you considering fitting a full electronic distributor instead...

Cheers,

Difficult to tell but it could well be one of those proprietary electronic ignition devices that were around in the seventies. Does the car retain its points? I'd take Graham's recommendation above and go for the electronic distributor.

Could be a one off item. The big can is probably a heat sink.

Those three fitments look really familiar, but I just can't place them.

I think they're transistor casings which lends credence to the idea that it's one of those ignition units designed to boost spark and cut out arcing across the points.

They are - 'power' transistors. I put that in the other post showing this (photo section perhaps?). If I think long and hard I might even come up with the encapsulation code...
yawn

No worries!
I found the pic in the photo section before I saw this thread - hence posting the info there... Could have duplicated it I suppose but... coffee was more important laugh2
Still can't think of the encapsulation - been away from proper electronics for too long...

Cheers,
