I once sat in a Mog that had ex landrover headrests. They were taller and slightly angled. Same fitting. They felt really good. Nick

Mine have never gone all the way in - not on my 2013 or 2020 Roadster. I think they are meant to protrude a couple of inches. My problem is also removing them - almost impossible. I sprayed the stems with some dry lube that I use on hedge trimmer blades

IMHO, headrests are not provided for comfort nor to snuggle into. They are there to prevent a broken neck in the event of a collision, particularly from behind. Adding a neck roll, arguably provides a nice pivot point to ensure the neck snaps more cleanly!

I've always thought the head rests spoil the lines of a Morgan. I have hacksawed a couple of inches off the end of the metal tube in the past to get them to go down flush with the seat back. I take them off and store them away and use 2 little plastic plugs that are from an MG to fill the hole in. I think they're angled way too far back to be of any benefit to reduce whiplash in the event of being rear ended.

If the headrest tube is cut to lower the headrest down to the seat it may interfere with seat belt retraction. Solution is to pivot the plastic seatbelt guide away from the headrest. Don’t ask how I know this !

There is guidance on proper fitment of head restraints from ROSPA where you will see that the head restraint should be touching the top of the head to be effective, so do check before chopping bits off to make it look pretty. Life may depend on it. https://www.rospa.com/rospaweb/docs/advice-services/road-safety/vehicles/adjust-head-restraints.pdf
