This thread is about high quality brake pads. Therefore, I do not really know if this post belongs to it. I looked at the Mintex catalog because I wanted to see if another car had the same type of brake pad. I came across the 90's MG RV8. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/08/14/3967F385-BBBB-4C6F-83ED-9DC4DAB1BD9B.png) I don't get any hits on the Morgan. When I search for brake pads for the MG RV8, I get a lot of offers from well-known manufacturers. These are not special sports or racing pads but there are good reputable manufacturers among them. Why should I not try out how the 790 kg light car drives on the road with good standard pads for 20 GBP. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/08/14/0E871B99-7C9F-48BF-8435-18B627010E27.png) https://www.daparto.de/Bremsbelag/MG-RV8-BR/3-9de2ad3f-1549?page=1&f=eyJtYW51ZmFjdHVyZXJfaWQiOls2NzMsNzA1LDc3NSw3OTIsNzk2LDY1N10sIkVpbmJhdW9ydCI6WyJWb3JkZXJhY2hzZSJdLCJkZWxpdmVyeV9jb3VudHJ5IjoiREUifQ%3D%3D

Heinz, if you scroll up to my post dated 12/3 /18 you will see why you did not get any hits for Morgan in the Mintex catalogue! Also, the pads in the advert you showed for the MG RV8 do not quite look to be the correct shape. Edit: just looked up the Ferodo listings and it looks like the ones you have shown are for the REAR, (FDB917), so I guess these cars had disc brakes all round. The correct shaped pads (FDB832) were once used on the Austin Princess. They have a couple of shoulders along the top edge for the H clips to locate onto. Other alternatives TRW: GDB752 Ferodo: FDB833 Unless you do track days or are a particularly hard driver, personally I see little point in spending a lot of € on “upgraded pads” Performance pads invariably need some heat to be really effective and also with the weight of a Morgan, I think ordinary road pads are more than sufficient.

Doug, thank you very much for your informative tip. In fact, the brake pads from TRW with the number you mention are in the list whose link I had sent. Then I take the TRW GDB752 to be sure. Obviously, these lists of Internet providers are not really useful. Especially since only with the TRW brake pads explicitly AP Lockheed is noted. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/08/14/111E7794-CF83-4865-8CA1-0D8EDF2F828D.png)

Heinz, if you take a look, I have just edited my last post while you were typing yours. Reference to rear pads.

You may have a typo above
Ferodo ref should be FDB 832

Doug, the German text says "Vorderachse" which means front axle with the Brembo brake pads in the picture. Obviously wrong. But anyway, with the TRW GDB752 I am correct. Thanks again.

A bit of a thread resurrection by me here, but there's some useful information within so I thought it better to add to this one rather than create my own post. Having bought Monty two years ago with only 10,000 miles on the clock I'd be very surprised if he's not running the original pads fitted at Pickersleigh Rd when he was built in late 2011, so on age alone I feel its pertinent to pop the pads out, inspect, clean and fit new pins and W clips. If I'm doing all this, given the cost of a new set of pads and the fact that brakes are something I never skimp on, I figured I may as well fit a new set of pads even if there's still life in the originals. I've been researching various compounds including discussing the subject with my friends at Frontline, following years of development and experimentation Frontline have settled on the M1144 compound from Mintex, they now exclusively use these pads in all their very rapid and extremely well engineered Duratec powered MGB recreations and it does seem from reading this thread and what's being offered by Wolf & Techniques the Morgan world is favoring the M1144 compound too. Over the years and even professionally when I was in restoration I have used Mintex standard road pads with good results, my experience is they're good quality and well priced, I have no direct experience of these Mintex M1144 fast road pads but I do trust Frontline's advice implicitly, so I figured I'd give them a try. As per this thread and others on TM, the pad code for the Caparo calipers used on my 2012 registered Duratec Plus 4 is MLB52, so I went looking for a set of Mintex MLB52 pads in the M1144 fast road compound and discovered while I can still buy new/old stock Mintex actually discontinued M1144 at the end of last year. However, for Jan 2024 Mintex replaced M1144 with their new fast road compounds MRM1801 and MRM1802, here's what Mintex say about this change: "Replacing M1144 road applications MRM1801 is a new medium friction compound specifically developed for performance road and light track day use, replacing M1155 and some M1144 applications MRM1802 is a new medium friction compound specifically developed for track day, circuit, rally and historic racing. Encompassing an average friction of 0.43 μ MRM1802 offers the controllability and positive feel of M1155 while the new thermal underlayer increases high temperature performance and longevity." "Both MRM1801 and MRM1802 are also Eco friendly to Euro 4 standard, with no copper or other rare earth resources, utilising our new thermal underlayer; increasing feel, high temperature performance and longevity. The outgoing Mintex M1144 is a great all round pad and for those who predominantly drive on the road, while Mintex M1155 compound brake pads are designed for heavy fast-road use (especially on heavier cars) and track-day use." With this in mind, ideally I would go for the M1144 replacement MRM1801 but I could only find MLB52 in the new MRM1802 compound, it looks like this relates to the Mintex comment that MRM1802 is replacing M1155 and some M1144 applications so I’ve decided to try a set of MRM1802. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/p0vvywY/Mintex-Fast-Road-Pads-1.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/DC7xR1J/Mintex-Fast-Road-Pads-2.jpg) I bought the above from Rally Design. https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=10505The total price including postage and VAT was £90.12 which seems fair, and this proved a lot cheaper than Techniques who charge £154.18 for a set of the now discontinued M1144 pads. I'm off to Prescott again at the end of the month for 8 runs up the hill, so very soon I'll be able to let everyone know how this new MRM1802 compound performs on the road, and during more aggressive driving too. Correction, despite Rally Design Ltd confirming my order at £90.12, they actually only charged me £85.92! ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/n3Scmgs/20240614-165816.jpg) Happy with that

Be interesting to see how you get on with those. Pads of that spec usually need some heat to be totally effective. That is not a problem on the track of course but I wonder whether Prescott hill climb will present enough opportunities to warm them up. Only thing for it is to go into those bends really hard…dont think you will need any extra encouragement to do that!
