Thanks for the promise of some feed back of the outcome. This forum operates on the exchange of information that is beneficial to all M3W owners. Looking forward to hearing what the outcome of this unusual occurrence is.

If it's just the orange painted part in the photo it is purely cosmetic although it is part of the body structure and not structural chassis.
Chances are it will get worse and will require welding at some point in the future.
Yea, it'll "buff out".....

Thank you for your replies. It was registered new in 2015, but had a chassis replacement done by the factory in November 2021. The cracks go completely through the cross piece. Does that piece of the body provide structural integrity or "just" hold the body together? If the latter I could probably drive carefully to help. Tim Just to be clear Tim. Is this a 2015 vehicle and it had a full chassis replacement in 2021 ? Why would a 2015 require a chassis replacement? When was the vehicle actually built? That is the bit that does not make sense -by 2015 should have no chassis issues?

This is not a chassis issue, it's the bodywork that has cracked. As PaulV says this could be the "old" body not quite matching up to the new chassis.

To clarify, we are asking why would a 2015 car require a whole new chassis in 2021??

Buyer be aware..

If it is a body panel crack then a usual cure is drill a hole at the end of the crack to stop it extending then weld, fill and repaint. If the crack has been caused by introducing a stress point then that might be worth investigating to prevent any more.
