I found mine was blowing at the siamesed central joint .... I used the old centre gasket to shim out the new one with some high temperature gold silicone .... left to cure for 24 hours ... not had a reccurence yet.

While my wings were off I took them back to bare metal ... was amazed at the amount of filler just about everywhere ... the rear guards being worst, tried to use the bare minimum filler to get them decent on rebuild

I've got a Librands big bore, and the central studs are supposed to be removed and replaced with allen bolts. With the wider bore pipes the normal 1/2" nuts are too large to fit in the central section - I managed to originally find some smaller brass nuts that took a 12mm spanner and they just fitted, but as it was the central section that was blowing I've decided to whip them out (if possible) and do it properly.

One outer stud unscrewed with the nut attached so although I only need to remove the inner two, it would leave one new stud and three old ones on the outers which upsets my sense of symmetry. I have some lovely stainless ones which I'll fit which a touch of antisieze.

As I've said, I've been soaking in PlusGas (and will continue to for the next two days), I've ordered some high tensile UNF nuts to lock together, and I've got my mini Oxy set to get some heat into the surrounding area. I can always weld a nut on if I get any breakages that leave enough stud clear. If I have to get the head off, it might just be just enough leverage to persuade the Mrs that it's the perfect time to get a Stage 2 head so won't be the end of the world smile smile

I've mentioned before, the restorer of mine was a) not a Morgan specialist and b) loved filler. On the rear number plate valance he'd tried to blend it into the rear body work - the filler was 1cm thick in places. My current effort looks great at 2 metres and a squint, but there are a few dodgy bits if you get closer. However I now no longer have a number of inch long deep rusty cracks, which is a good thing!
