Do we think that the high price tags for the CX cars will eventually drag up those of the Trads, or does it not work like that?

Before the CX.......the constant upward trend of Trad prices dragged used prices along behind it. My S1 Roadster in 2005 was around 40k. After three years I bought it for £32500.

When the 3.7 was released I would have had to pay at least £25,000 extra which made no sense whatsoever. That's what led me to my 2012 Plus 4 as a second Morgan. That probably also makes no sense whatsoever, but hey!

Prices of trads follow trend and affordability, so the Plus 8, which had been the halo Morgan for so long, lost ground when the Aeros were announced, and more so when the Aero Plus 8 was announced.

Probably the 4/4 and Plus 4 prices are least affected by external influences, because they are the most numerous trads, and arguably with the least vices. Well, maybe not including the GDI!!

The CX market is different. It's almost a money no object market, where buyers will pay double trad money in order to get "modernity". This market should hold 3.7 Roadster prices well, because the 3.7 Roadster is a close competitor of the Plus Four, for a lot less money. The older Roadster will probably get dragged along with this, and my agreed valuation this year shows a hardening of values. The newest Trad Plus 8 is now 18 years old. That's an old car by any standard, and the market for any classic car over that age becomes more dependant on the dirty fingernail brigade, with a few rose tinted glasses thrown in.

I don't think future values are at all predictable. A lot depends on CX reliability over the next couple of years. The early cars with hard seats and the trad hood flaps are likely to become overlooked for the upgraded CXs, but will present a less expensive option for enthusiasts. Only time will tell.

My view FWIW is that the high price will preclude any being used seriously off road. The few that are serious about off roading would likely build their own with premium components for considerably less anyway. Given low numbers and that most will be hidden away, I doubt it will affect other CX or Classic Morgan prices, although the latter will hopefully appreciate on merit of age and availabity.

Current prices for CX cars confound and surprise me. I guess I still think of Morgans as premium but affordable British sporting classics. The current price lists seem to bring them into Porsche country. For example, I was recently looking (but not buying!) at an ad' for a fabulous GT4 with v.low miles and mint / as new condition at comparable to current Morgan prices. Love Morgans as I do, at that price I'd take the Porsche. I'm not sure how big a market there is for Morgans at these higher price points. Cannot help feeling that they need a more entry level priced car but maybe they just cannot make the numbers work for profitability. Lotus have dropped the once affordable Elise and are gradually moving up the scale now too.

I bloody love the CX-T. Who cares if it's just for pose? Mind you, they'd need to snip a couple more zeroes off the price before i could afford it. Ah well, a chap can dream...

Sure they are different but pretty pointless, they all will find their way into collectors garages or museums.

I hope the seats, brakes suspension and radiator are up to snuff at that price point rofl

One wonders if they had concentrated a little more on quality control of the items fitted to the Plus Four whether it would have been a better idea instead of flights of fancy such as this rendition, it's not really one thing or another is it...

Had they successfully campaigned it in either of the Exeter, Lands End or Edinburgh Trials I would have viewed it differently I expect.

The Italian designer on here has a far more marketable Super 4 design to my eyes.

Gosh you guys can get salty. I hope the irony of any Morgan owner calling another Morgan pretty pointless isn’t lost on any of us. What precisely is the ‘point’ of a Plus Four or plus Six or Plus 8 or Super 3?

You guys need to go back and have a read through the venerable work of literature that is the Morgan children’s book. The hatch back carries more people, the suv carries more stuff, the van works harder, the taxi is busier, but the Morgan puts a smile on Henry’s face. The point of these cars is to make you happy. And I hope the lucky owner of the CX-T simply enjoys his or her car however much or little or how they use or don’t use it.

‘Flights of fancy’ may be an apt description of every Morgan. I’m not sure, used in this context, it’s the pejorative you think it is.

Well as individuals we are all entitled to a view fortunately and Simon allows us to express them openly, it would be desperately boring if we all were forced to agree imho grin2

Home truths are often expressed in this parish..

We all know they are just toys wink

Yep, me too. I've been thinking of whether it's possible to rig up something similar for my 4/4 for when I have the roof up - much smaller/lighter roof cage/frame (for show only) mainly to carry the spotlights over the windscreen. Watch this space.........
