OK, so not a CX.. I hope you might pardon the intrusion DPF..

Goat tracks...? smile Yeah need something just a bit wider. As for the track/road surface quality... being prepared to push ones luck a tad can be an important part of one`s Morgan adventures..? laugh2

Great pictures Luddite! You’re a driving inspiration! Would love to hear some of those stories over a pint or four.

My driving inspiration was Lorne the GoMG webmaster who drive his Morgan in Canadaand America covering thousands of miles in the process. He also toured a fair bit of Europe too.
I shared tales of my trips on eMog with accompanying pics as did others. That eMog no longer exists seems a pity given the loss of it`s database. If I remember correctly an OZ eMogger did the Paris to Peking rally in his Morgan..?
More than happy to dig out some tales and pics if you care to send me an email address via PM..But my adventures come from a time of paper maps, though we did have a mobile phone and Spanner Juggler had put us wise to the value of local tourist offices in foreign parts.. smile

Lovely drive yesterday with the sides off. Thinking it may be the last time this year I’ll be able to do that without a coat!

As I’m getting a little not comfortable with the car I’m beginning to explore the gearbox a bit more.

The auto just gets better and better in my view. It’s a brilliantly calibrated unit. I I’ve found, to my surprise, that I really enjoy and utilise the paddles more than I’d anticipated. They’re lighting fast, a pleasant report and click, and surprisingly fun in and out of corners. Additionally, it’s hard to overstate just how important it is having the space to rest your left foot while driving. For spirited driving in a manual it may not be essential, but for anything less spirited it’s really nice to rest the left foot.

Another thing that has surprised me is that even in the auto I’m developing a familiarity with the different gears. Something I’ve only experienced in manuals before. 3rd and 4th are the sweet spot for the roads I’m driving and they have notably different feels to them. I find I’m also coming to grips with the engine. I don’t think it likes to be reved to the limit, and seems most effective and sounds best switching out by 4000rpm. I’ve been really intrigued by my engagement with the gear box as I’d really not anticipated thinking about it; and I don’t when just pottering around, but when pushing it a little, it has some real character. I’d thought the auto might be a bit of a concession, but the more time I spend with it the more I’m sure it’s the best option for me.

And a couple pics from up above Arncliffe with the sides off. Really enjoying the combination of the Plus Four and the Dales as photographic subjects. Shot from the right angles, both are pretty timeless.

Still liking the pics DPF. Definitely envious that you managed to get the car and still have some summer driving. I am still waiting … frown

Any progress on a name yet?

Thinking ‘Siegfried’. After Siegfried Farnon on ‘All Creatures Great And Small’, which is set and filmed just around us here in the Dales. He’s a wonderful character and his Rover 12 sports tourer was an inspiration as I was choosing the spec of my own car. I had a picture of it open on my desktop while I was finalising my specification.

The remake is very, very good, as are modern automatic gearboxes and the essential software that controls them and the engine.
Driving the Boxster I have the same experience as @dalesplusfour, changing gear a different way but still managing the gear box.
The Plus 8 auto box is from a previous generation and is best left in sport mode to do its own thing.
